Bal4 Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 I know that factory tint offers little to no benefits but i would like to see some actual specs on UV rejection and Heat rejection. I want to be able to factually explain the limited benefits to my customers. Anyone have this info?
Bal4 Posted March 25, 2016 Author Report Posted March 25, 2016 I just found this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factory_tint
Tintguy1980 Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Back when EDTM released their SS2450 meter I took it around to car lots measuring factory glass performance, both clear and privacy. Sorry to inform but glass mannies have vastly improved glass performance both architecturally and in automotive. Most privacy glass today have Tset in to low teens with 95-98% UV reduction. I measured the fronts on many vehicles and found the best to be on a Cadillac with Tset in the mid-40's and UV reduction at 95%. All numbers taken by the SS2450 were real eye openers. And, none of the glass measured was laminated. These type numbers have been in play since 2008 and you can find performance values at Pilkington Automotive and Saint Gobain Automotive sites. You'll have to dig deep to find them. Edit: There is no disputing the finding of the EDTM meter discussed here as it has been proven to be accurate to within 2% when compared to readings gathered using a $100K+ spectrophotometer.
TomTint Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Many many threads here talk of Olfa blades changing in the past few years. These complaints follow the same timeline that glass mfrs stepped up the technology that is put into auto and flat glass, due to EPA and energy requirements in the construction world. Today's glass is incredibly efficient and adding film in many cases .. Is not a significant improvement from a ROI standpoint.
flat rock stan Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 TomT you might have a good point Couple years ago I went on the Subaru forum to find out a answer for just what Smartie confirmed. Also found that Subaru went to framed windows because they could still save weight by making the glass lighter with the frame. Smartie can you confirm this? Cheers
F1windowtinting Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Well we should keep this info to ourselves. Alot of SUVS still need tint on back half =) More money for us
jh812 Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 even if it is better I ain't telling the customer that.

jh812 Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Honestly even if you do film is still going to benefit.
