2002 BMW Sedan

Got a call from a guy who said that he has been attempting to remove the tint from his back glass. now its "partially removed".

It sounds like part of the tint that remains is a strip down at the bottom that he cant get to.

I told him that he would have to come in for me to be able to quote him.

My thoughts are if he cant reach the piece at the bottom neither can I. should pass on a job like this? I know its going to take me hours to fix his mess ( or not even be able to get the bottom out. at all) In the same time i could make a lot easier money just tinting.

I would just $50-$100 more than your normal removal cost.  Worst case scenario they pay it and you make more money, best case scenario they go someone else.

Long handle razor scraper might be the only way.

Although I bet you could do the tint and bag trick to get it off. I have been amazed at how well it worked on old tint.

If i decide to do it I'm thinking atleast $120/hr. I charge $180 for a sedan which takes me 1.5 hours so on the sedan im making $120/hr if im going to take up a slot for a full tint would it be fair to charge at least what I missing out on?

This is correct. Outside of turning it down if you have plenty of work ,you have to be payed for a less fun job than tinting. Dealing with removal in some cases can truly succk

I shy away from some of the home removals people bring me. Unless i'm sitting around doing nothing its a waste of time. I always look at it, if its gonna be one of those PITA ones :nope

If there's not enough room I would tell them to take it to BMW and have the rear deck removed. Then spray some tint off and cover in plastic. Make sure it's hot enough outside or it will be a pita
