windshield tint plus visor strip

I recently had my windshield tinted with Formula One Pinnacle 50% on my 2011 GMC Sierra.  I am considering a top visor strip since the GMC does not have the factory blue strip.  The shop that did the windshield said if they put a visor strip on that it could cause the windshield to thermal stress and break.  Something to do with the difference in heat absorption of the 50% and the 5% visor strip.  My windshield does not have any rock chips or cracks in it.  Should I stay away from the visor strip due to this possibility?  I can't find a whole lot of info about this, only that it seems to happen on commercial building glass.

Thanks for the advice!

Do them all the time. Haven't had it happen yet. That's not to say that there's not a chance. It's a risk I don't mind taking though.

Keep in mind your stock windshield is 70-85% now with 50% on top of it.  So the strip will be much darker than 5% once applied.  You may want to go with 20 or 15 in that case.

It will be just fine. That's a load of crap from that other shop. Nothing but an excuse.

IMO and most here it is not going to break.  Some people do 2 layers of 5% on their windows and never hear of any issues related to breakage.  However, just like any aftermarket modification to your vehicle you assume the risk and just know that if it does break/crack you will be out money for a windshield plus having it tinted again.
