Always wanted to do that but was afraid if something bad happened, it would have been my fault.

yeah, that's kinda what made us do it growing up, then we learned the rumor wasn't true and all you get is a very thin piece of copper.

I don't think a train would stay on the tracks if that were the case. Hell the derails that we had at my old job wouldn't always do the job.

The only danger from putting pennies or coins on the tracks is when they vibrate to the sides and get slung like a bullet out from under the wheel. That can get rather dangerous and will cut right through you. We always put them on the tracks then hid behind something to keep from getting hit by high speed coins.

The train in my home town would run once maybe twice a year when I was young. We left one on it waiting for it but checking on it everyday. One day we were playing baseball when we heard it come thru and our faces lite up as we remembered the penny on the tracks. It took us a few minutes to find it but we did and the train was still on headed down the tracks.
