Never done FG but was asked if I would

Recommended Posts

I do some work for a local dealer. Last time I was there I was asked if I could do the the windows in the lobby of the dealership. I told them that I didn't do FG work but I knew some people who did. I went on vaca a couple of days later and never got around to talking to anyone else about it.

Its now been a few months later and the other day I did a car for one of the salesmen and he asked about the FG for the dealership again. I know FG pays more than auto so I would make some decent money on this job, I have never done FG before, is this this something I should consider attempting? I would likely get the job if I gave them a quote.

We have done more dealership showrooms than I can count. The issue is always glare and heat because the desks are shoved right up against the windows. The compromise is going to come when the glare issue is addressed. The dealer is going to want to eliminate glare while still allowing clear vision into the showroom, so all the customers get sucked in by the shiny cars on the floor. You can't reduce glare without darkening the glass.

Thanks every for the encouragement. What should I know about the differences between auto and flat.

You should know what is and what is not compatable with what ever glass type you are dealing with. You should also know what the capabilitys of the film you install are. You should also know that after you tint FG, you won't even want to be bothered with auto.

You can do it, but for your first job you might want to have help. For sure if they are big windows. You can PM me for tech questions if you want. :thumb

Thanks for the offer. I definitely will be hitting you up with some questions. Thanks again

Always glad to help a fellow tinter. And as Tom stated, the most important thing is making sure you sell them a film safe for the glass. :thumb
