Think I'm done with using tint dude classifieds for new employees

I've used this method several times and WOW, unbelievable what I listen to when they call! Early summer I hired a guy off the classifieds here and he swore he was dependable, drug free.... The list goes on and his one reference led me to believe he was telling the truth. I put him on the bus ( bad sign) and he was at my shop in two days. One month later busted for attempt to buy drugs.... He says he wasn't I gave him one more shot.

Same guy 2 months later everything seemed ok and one day he has a problem with the way we do things??? He's making good money and getting paid on time. He tells one of my employees he's done he won't be back?? I got lucky and had his spot filled in one day by a guy that used to work for me that rolled back in town.

This same guy now trying to work out of a gas station 1/2 mile from me, no threat, come on be cant be serious with his hand written sign! I've got a guy now that we have been training, he's young and not set in his ways.... He will be ready by spring! There are other story's of tinters that say what you want to hear and their nothing close! I'll hire a good tinter tomorrow but you better have 3 GOOD references and they all say the same thing.

You need to be a better judge of character

. No, I had a bad feeling about him the day he showed up but he got the job done and did a good job, just had to keep an eye on his work. 27 years in the aftermarket business and window tint being a busy but small part of our business has always been the most trying when it comes to employees. I like to keep 5 tinters at all times... Was just trying to make a point that a lot of the responses you get from the classifieds are very sketchy to say the least. Tom Tint .... Do you tint yourself? I don't... You probably work along side the new guy and can as the owner get a better feeling for the new guy. Live and learn I guess, just been spoiled with great tinters over the years.

Finding good help is extremely hard to find. I am involved with a few companies that have been searching for installers for over a year. I would estimate 95% of the applicants don't reach past the trash can. I have been saddened on the quality of people applying.

The last one I was involved during the interview seemed like a pretty good guy. Last part of the interview was a criminal background check. The guy was told if it went through, should be hearing back from the owner offering a job. The guy just got out serving time for being a pedophile. When the guy was contacted and this was mentioned, his response,"Oh you found out about that." The job was residential installations. Ya sure you will get the job.

I could not even tell you how many did face to face interview stoned

Most high quality installers can make it on their own. Not all , but most. If you are going to lure a real legitimate tinter, they are going to want to get paid like one. Many of the owners that don't tint themselves don't realize this and that is why you see turnover

I couldn't agree with you more Tom I am a very qualified installer and spend years working under someone else. I also couldn't be happier working for myself.
