Tint lifted off of dot matrix.... fix it?

Recommended Posts

I did a job about a year ago, and the customer never complained about the fact that over the first couple weeks the tint lifted off the dot matrix, almost completely. It's about an '01 Grand Prix, and has a NASTY spread of dots.... I didn't do any sanding or gluing, but it all looked good at the time.

So how do I fix this? Try to 2-piece it, with glue, after the fact? Vinyl it? I've never done vinyl before....

I'll post a pic when it shows up in a couple hours.

thanks in advance.

The one above was a huge rush job I did for someone....A snow storm was coming in, but Once I let it dry for 15 20 mins I pulled it down and Glued it.....And it looked awesome....Cant find the after pic right now....

You can cut the tint and put vinyl there now though.... like this....

Any Time, I don't use vinyl or dot trix cause I dont like it and my custys dont either....It just depends....What I do now is ....I use glue but I do it a different way, I heat form the tint and everything the same way, But I shave the dots real good than I clean up, than I use glue and put it up on the dots and than I apply the film and squeegee out than I hard card the rest of the glue out....I put the glue on really thin though you dont need much....

Vinyl is super easy. Cut the tint off at the bottom of the matrix, then use that piece of tint that's already cut to shape as a pattern on the vinyl. Cut the vinyl to size, wet it and slap it on. Super easy, I use a mactac to squeegee. Make sure you get it really wet because of course it doesn't like to slide on dots.

We have some Dottrix and personally it does not stick very well. We use Elmer's Blue Glue, make sure you scrub good, apply the film just don't cover the dots, let the dots and film dry prior to applying, then put a bead of glue across the bottom and slowly work up. Looks great and have never have failed yet.
