How to get around window locks on FG

I seen a thread awhile back regarding removing window locks and reinstalling them, the ones that have a metal plate that is hard to reinstall once you remove both screws, what I do in a situation like this, see pics below.

This pic shows how tight the lock is against the glass.

I remove one screw and just loosing the other one.

Now you can get behind the latch, I use my factory edge on the bottom and trim the top of the window.

If you have to trim the bottom and need to remove the latch, just put the other screw back in so you don't lose the plate. Remove the latch and other screw and then you only have to work around one. Never had much trouble but I could see where on horizontal sliders.

I clean behind and slip a straight edge of the film in, align and trim all other sides.

I think you're missing the context of the original thread. Some have anchors that drop into the window frame. When you go to put the locks back no more threads to put the screws into. Thanks to our friend the engineers.

almost all newer homes I do. The double hung latch is touching the glass. To tight to even slide the film behind it, and trimming around the latch looks like pure chit.

I guess Ive been lucky. Ive always taken them off, but I think all of the ones I have taken off thread directly into the frame and not a plate in the frame. I will be more careful next time.

its always a good idea to check before you pull both screws. The only time it ever happened to me. I was able to grab and reposition the plate with a magnet.
