Tinting Semi trucks

Recommended Posts

Is anyone tinting semi trucks since the DOT's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued the clarification about tinting the driver and passenger windows on vehicles over 26,000 pounds? Meaning, they can be tinted to 70% VLT.

Its a 70% NET law. Film + Gass. Virtually nothing besides 2mil clear is going to pass that once installed on glass.

I saw you had a Solar Gard link in your signature. They have Ultra Performance 75 at a 76% VLT and the Ultragard UV at 89% VLT. Do you have experience with those films? It seems the UP 75 would be okay on most front driver and passenger windows. Unless some of the new big rigs have tinted glass similar to some cars.

state of utah no film and they will call you on it at the port 70% period

My understanding was that it was a nation wide thing. Not specific to a state... and what is "the port"? Oh, how much are fines for commercial drivers? More then a little tint ticket for someone driving a car or pickup, huh?!

I have done a couple. But when you show them what 70% looks like most people I have delt with bitch because they thought they could have their windows tinted now like the doors of a car. you just need to be a good sells man, and show them how well a light film can work.

Very good point... I was going to bring samples and push the benefits of UV blocking, the case studies and long term results for long hauls and career drivers.

I think that this well open the door for darker vlt film to be installed on semi's in the future. They need to understand the heat also plays a factor in this as well. That is something clear film does not stop. I hope in the near future they will bring it down to a 50% vlt net atleast.

ive installed qdp 50% on a couple. one of them the driver had to remove the film so I redid it for him. very crappy that truck drivers cant have any film on their front windows. truck drivers should be automotive window film spokespeople.

They can have film on the windows, just not dark at all, NET 70%... kinda lame...but it is the UV that is the main concern.

Agreed, hopefully someone, truckers or tinters will complain to the right person and this will change soon.
