Hey guys I'm not a tint guy by any means and this is my first time tinting anything so any advise , even if it sounds dumb will be greatly appreciated.

I am working on a movie prop from back to the future . I am trying to replicate Doc Browns metal glasses he wore in the movie. I am using mirror tint on 1/8 inch plexiglass bent to specs. The glasses are very round ( I think that my first problem ) . I have been able to just about perfect no air bubbles but I'm having a hard time with the tint wanting to lift around the edges and ofer the nose area.

Here are pics of what im facing.

Is there anything I can do or any tips you guys have to prevent this? I was able to get it correct once but I'm not sure what I did differently. Here is the one I got correct

Again I'm looking for any help or tips as I really want to complete this project.

Thanks guys,

Brandon

you say "mirror tint" , is it an automotive film or a flat glass film ? you'd be best off with a pressure sensitive auto film . your also gonna need a heat gun to shrink those fingers out . it will be tough cause you will shrinking on your final trimmed edge ... oh yeah , the film will only shrink to factory edge coming off the roll ... good luck ...

Thanks so much for the reply. It is a flat glass film I do believe ( came from home depot ) . I do have a heat gun and tried heating it but it seemed to lift it off the plexiglass more than it helped.

I'm not sure if this is everywhere but here I believe you can only have mirror or chrome tint on half of the window then it must fade to black or a smoke tint sobi haven't been able to find an automotive mirror ( chrome ) tint. Will it conform to the edges a lot better?

Also any links to where I might be able to buy small amounts?

We own an automotive repair shop in TN so I can ask around to see if I can find a tint supplier here locally but I'm not 100% they would sell to us without an account.

Thanks a ton guys,

Brandon

search out a local Llumar dealer and ask if they got platinum plus 20 , or even a pressure sensitive silver flat glass film . what you have ( I believe ) is what we call a chemical dry adhesive and it will take some time to set up . pressure sensitive is tacky from the start , more like tape ...

just so ya know I did a helmet visor ONCE ! was the toughest thing I've ever filmed ... and your not gonna be a threat to any shop so you may be able to get some local help ...

try shrinking and trimming first , then peel and stick ...

dont know how your holding the glasses so you can work with both hands but this is what I came up with on the visor ... a bucket

That would be great man!

Also with the film I have been using I have noticed once the film is on if the glasses flex around the nose area ( pulling apart to put the on) the tint wants to pull up in that area .. It that normal or just the type of tiny I'm using
