coast2coasttinting
wait and cut around the button after you place the film on the inside of the glass. I use my middle finger to hold the film in place. Then cut around the button carefully.

Then cut around the button carefully. If there is every anything I disagree with you on c2C its this. Though you have a lot more experience than me, I find that when I do it that way lots of dirt will get in the"finger" that stands up around the mirror peice. Not only that, but if you do it that way you better not have the rest of the film tacked down already cuz if you do you'll have a big finger standing up in the middle. Open the car door, stand on the floor board and reach over the top of the car and make the cut.

I agree, unless the button has black around it like most new cars. I cut those on the outside...
Guest a6tint
I cut on the inside and the outside, it depends on the car. When I cut on the outside, I cut the opposite side of the mount. If I stand on the pass. side I reach over and cut the driver's side of the mount, and the same standing on the driver's side, I cut the pass. side of the mount. This will get the bottom and top of the mount right, and then the hole you just made is a little small side to side, but the right contour, so I just trace next it to make it the right size. It a takes some practice but works good. If you try cut the driver' side of the mount from the driver's door opening, and cut right on what you see, the hole will be too big. coast2coasttinting
most cars today have tons of room around the sunstrip button. Some of you younger guys would have a real rough time doing an 84 chevy truck sunstrip cleanly.
msheurs
If it has that black border around it I'd be careful not to cut it on the inside, your knife can scratch that
coast2coasttinting
the way I cut around the button the knife blade doesn't really touch the glass at all. Also because of the way I peel the liner I would much rather there be no cut out. But there are times that I cut a button on the out side too. I can cut the button from one side and it fits fine for me. Just takes practice.
