Decision on new toy

Recommended Posts

So in another thread I told of my new toy purchase. Its a 2008 CVO Road King. The bike has 400 miles on it and a few extra add ons. It is at a HD Dealer and Im supposed to pick it up tomorrow. After doing the inital paperwork on it, I go home and do some research via the internet and discover there was a problem with head and base gaskets with that model and a subsequent recall. Well the previous owner never brought it in for the work and thus the time frame to do it under warranty has passed. Dealer has offered to drop the price of the bike by 500.00 if I agree to put the $ toward a 2 yr extended warranty. $1200.00 Net adtl 700.00 out of my pocket. If the gaskets go, The fix is about 2K...provided nothing else is effected. Hmmmmm.

I'm a big fan of The People's Court... I think she is smoking hot. :)

Anyhoo... one of the things she always says is that court it to make the person 'whole'... to put them where they would be if the wrong did not happen.

My thought is - how much would the work be to perform to correct the recall problem? Obviously if a problem happens, it's normally more $$$$ to correct.

So what would the cost be in order to make the bike 'whole' - as if the previous guy HAD taken it in for the work.

The dealer, I would think, should be willing to fix any issues like that prior to selling it. It's one thing if it's something like you don't like the seat or fairings or something like that... but a mechanical problem that the maker of the bike offered to correct at no charge.... The least this guy should do is correct the potential issue.

IMO...
