Rear motorized sunscreen on 2012 Lexus ES - DANGER!

Recommended Posts

I tinted one of these last week and when the customer picked it up the rear sunscreen wouldn't go up. You could hear the motor trying to work, but it wouldn't go up.

Luckily I have a hookup at Lexus and turns out the screen came off track. They said only two things would cause this: (1) Somebody trying to push it down while it was up (2) Somebody pushed it down even more while it was already down. Probably was the latter because I can't install tint with the screen up! The moral of the story is don't put any pressure on the screen while you're installing the tint!!!

Luckily I had that hookup because they said anybody else and they would have charged for a whole new screen (prob. $2k) with labor! Instead they just popped it back on track and that was that. Also, it sounds like you could fix it yourself if you know how to get to the screen. Part of my check-in/out procedure will now involve making sure that screen works!
