It may surprise some to hear that I agree with GM on this. Most of the benefit on Facebook can be had for free which the article mentions GM still plans to use. I dont think there is much value in buying Facebook ads and spamming people right now. Using a page and interacting with your customers for free is a no brainer. There will come a day when running ads on Facebook matters as it will have the better demographic information on it's users than anyone allowing advertisers to Target a very narrow consumer. However, not sure that day is yet here.

Also, this is kind of old news at this point.

People use FB to interact with friends and stroke their own egos posting pics of whatever they feel is important at the time. What they don't want is to be force fed more advertising in a place where they spend " private" time. There is consumer backlash when they feel like a company has invaded their personal space. IE FB advertising. I think GM was actually one of the first to figure this out.
