Hoping to go mobile soon.... with everything..

Recommended Posts

Well, we offer auto tint (and some FG, hoping to more of that and less of auto), auto detail, windshield chip repair and soon commercial window washing.

The guy we rent the shop from sometimes makes comments that make me feel uneasy about my whole business running out of a fixed location.

I feel I'd be a lot less tied down, have less risk of losing everything, and have less overhead if we went completely mobile... I was thinking a medium sized enclosed trailer with generator, air compressor, peel board (probably seperate compartment for gen and compressor so its not loud and kicking dust onto peel board) and some other tools all organized in the trailer. I drive a 2000 Silverado with vinyl decals that say company name etc etc etc so if I can find a black enclosed trailer to match the truck for a decent price I think I'm going to jump on it...

What do you guys think? Any suggestions? comments?

Offer mobile detailing and hire someone to go out and do that. You stay at the shop and tint. He goes out with the trailer, billboard, and you stay in the shop and tint. Doing everything yourself is not going to get you anywhere. You need to establish a team. At first, you will make less and it will be stressful, but keep moving.

I am a mobile tinter and I love it :) Clients love being able to have their cars tinted in the convenience of their own home. Most of the time they will ask for a quote for their home. Who knows they might have some friends or family come over and want to get their car tinted. Bonus right there if you ask me. There is alot of benefits with mobile tinting. You save and pocket more not having to pay for a shop.

Regards, Michael

the best thing you could do would be to get a small garage at your house. Mobile tinting works ok most days. Except for winter, summer, windy days, rainy days. I use to be alot more mobile then I am now. And I can tell you first hand that while it sounds like a great idea. It is a PITA. You are always somewhere new. It's hard to have rythum like that. Plus what you will spend on gas you could build or rent a shop.

I have a small commercial location and also tint bay at home. I love having both as I'm by appointment at both. I havnt done mobile tint in years and don't miss it . Set up / takedown ,sub par work compared to a controlled well lit , climate controlled consistent environment. Just my experience :DD

Doesn't mean I'm right, just means I personally could get mobile work as high end as I can in my own place, if I charged less, I could get away with it :lol

I just grade all my work with a fine tooth. I like having my jobs come out as perfect as possible. "Possible" being the keyword there, its not likely to happen in someones driveway or funky garage with the washer in dryer up your ass.

I wouldn't even think about going mobile again. Didn't do it long at all and it was a nightmare. I'm lucky enough to have a shop that 3-4 cars a month and I break even on rent, utilities and such. Not the greatest of storefronts but its centrally located, cheap, works well and is convenient to me and my customers. It's got two offices and three bays. One is install bay, one is warehouse space for doors/window/film storage and one bay we will be converting to a show room for Window/Door/Shades/Film sales. Mobile makes sense, but not for me, especially since I am pretty picky when it comes to installs. So shop with a controlled environment is the only way I could do auto, if I had to go mobile I'd drop it all together.

I've seen the mobile detailers pull up at a local factory and do almost every car in the parking lot. They lined them up and worked thier way down. Mobile detailer seems work out pretty good. They had a Nissan pickup, single axle open trailer, small generator, vacuum cleane, r pressure washer, and a water tank. They did a lot of business. Good luck!
