Which states allow windshield strip down to the AS-1 line, even if the AS-1 line is 7 or 8 inches from the top of the windshield? My state is one such state and I was amused that the installer told me it was my choice... so I had him tint it down to the AS-1 line. On my car, the top edge of the glass(visible part) is 7 and 3/4 inch from the AS-1 line. When I sit in my driving position, that line happens to be at my eye level.(which is where it should be) The windshield glass(again, clear part) is about 24 inches from top to bottom. This means almost 1/3 of the windshield now has 5% tint on the top.... looks kind of funny from the outside. Strangely, at my previous state, that is not allowed. The rule over there is the AS-1 line or 5 inches, whichever is shorter. It always amuses me that there are 50 states and each state has its own quirky window tint laws. -

what can be done if I think the rear windows are not dark enough after xpel Prim XR Plus 30% tint was applied to factory privacy glass?
Thanks! I was driving from NY to Chicago last night. Okay, the rear tint was dark enough. Somewhere in PA where the interstates was completely dark in the mountains, I couldn't see anything out the back. or more precisely, there was nothing to see, since I didn't encounter another car in my direction for a few miles. -

Question about installing "nonreflective" window film
I have read that the reflectance factor of glass is typically 7-8%. If a tint's visible light reflectance factor "matches the reflectance factor of glass" - for purposes of "calculating" reflectivity, does that mean that that overall reflectivity of the glass plus the film will be 7-8%, or are we adding 7% (glass) to 7% (the film)? I assume it is the former, but please let me know if this is wrong. Essentially, no one would be able to tell from the outside that film was ever installed? -

New to the industry - Residential/commercial tinting
Hello all... We are adding window tinting (no vehicles) to our construction service company in the Caribbean and wondering the best route to take given the roadblocks we've encountered to date. Roadblocks being support from the manufacturer reps for 3M and potentially Eastman/Llumar. We want to turn out an exceptional product but these companies are very slow to help with training our people in Central America though they claim otherwise. The 3M rep firm in Miami is basically worthless. The guy 2-3 weeks to answer emails and that's only after sending regular follow-ups. We recently reached out to Eastman and got a call back from the Carribean rep in Mexico but I'm not holding my breath on them sending over their onboarding process. Anyway, hoping on some input from other professionals with these questions: 1. Are there better sources for training other than rep firms from 3M or Eastman? Perhaps a private company/individual willing to travel to Central America for full training of 3-4 techs? 2. Are we best suited by continuing to pursue 3M or Llumar for res and commercial applications? We're not interested in anything less than top tier support, material and warranty. 3. Who might we engage for purchasing the necessary installation equipment for this side of the business? -

95 degrees outside... should I park in the driveway instead of garage to help new tint dry faster?
sorry for this newbie question.... had my tint done yesterday. it's around 95 degrees here every single day this week. when I'm at work, it's parked in the underground garage for 8 hours during the day. I can park outside next to my office building, but that lot is not owned by my company, which means I'll have to pay around $35 to park there during the day. My drive home is only 20 minutes. When I get home, I park it inside the semi-underground garage of my condo. The only outdoor parking is for guests/visitors, but I'll have to get a temp placard. That means the car doesn't get more than an hour of sunlight each day. Will that affect how quickly the new tint dries? (tint is xpel prime XR plus, if that makes any difference) Thanks! -

pb has made some good points such as two layers doesn't necessarily = enough solar energy rejection to make a difference. Double layers will stay in place until removal and when the film is removed, like he said, the second layer falls away. Usually this takes the scratch resistant coating off the first layer, giving the impression it 'falls' away. If you're simply looking to blackout more so than heat rejection, then 30% on 30% on 25% (glass) will suffice. Anything lower, such as 20% or 5% on 30% on 25% (glass), minimally impacts how dark it becomes.- 1
