FlatGlass Marketing Thoughts

I live in an area where there is nobody within 4 hours of me that does commercial or residential window tinting and I want to start doing this in addition to auto. I am curious as to what type of marketing works to start getting some residential tinting going on. I know word of mouth will work once you start doing jobs, but first I need to get jobs.

I try advertising on craigslist but no dice for residential or commercial jobs from there. Thinking about getting advertising on my vehicle. I was also thinking about taking out an ad in the local newspaper because part of the problem is that consumers here don't even consider window film as an option to their problems.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Foot work. Network with local businesses. Don't try to sell even, just go into small businesses all over, take 2 minutes, introduce yourself, what you offer, leave a card and take one of theirs.

Think like a contractor not a tinter. Also make sure you are insured and have a contractors lic if required.

First things first, reputable website... Then network with local glass companies, contractors, interior decorators architects etc...

Ya go around and not try and sell but tell all the benefits of it tinted windows vs. Non tinted. I hate when ppl come in and try and sell somethin. Id rather have someone tell me about the product and let me decide then force a sell. Alot of ppl dont think about tint on buildings. U say tint and auto is the first thing that comes to mind. Im surprized CL didnt get any hits. Remember when posting an ad to have tags or keywords so when someone searches it will pop up

Chamber of Commerce, since I joined its helped tremendously with flat glass sales. Larry's tips are good also, networking with contractors, decorators, realitors, etc.

Wow, the only one makes it easy. First of all, do some research. Find out what neighborhoods yield high incomes and send out mailers to those. Secondly, get involved in your community. Donate to your local schools by helping to pay for special events. Advertise in any publications that comes from the school...parents read them!!! Thirdly, find out who the maintenance companies are for businesses in your area and get authorized with them. If there is an Academy in your area, they are tinting all of them...so is Gander Mountain.

There are so many more things you can do. Stay away from craigslist.

ALL of your previous customers are qualified leads (if you did a good job for them :beer ).

ALL your upcoming customers are potential leads.
