GO INTO THE BIOS, (hold down delete key) See if the motherboard will recognize the drive.

Sometimes setting the drive jumper to CS will mae the drive appear.

Oh boy this thread could be an omen. :rollin I've noticed a slightly louder whiiring noise occasionaly lately from my puter which I assume is the hard drive and probably not a good thing. If I get a new drive how does one transfer everything? I think this is a situation where adult supervision is required :lol

I read alot of HOW TO articles on the net about adding a secondary drive before I did mine, mine came with pretty good instructiond. the only thing that got me was the sh!tty software they sent, it was on a floppy disk :rollin and I couldnt get it to work. luckly western digital had it on their site and they had it for WINDOWS instead of DOS, it was cake after I got the right software :shock I jsut added a second hard drive, I dont know how you transfer all your data to a new ont though :lol I bet you could damn sure find out on the internet though beforehand.

Thanks I really only noticed the noise recently and while it's not grinding or anything and at this point everything seems to working OKI noticed this thread and thought I would ask. I picked up some zip disks yesterday to do data backups but I don't have a clue how to transfer the operating systems, programs and such :lol I did do a search for hard drive replacement and found some info but not specific enough instructions for me to feel comfortable with yet as far as actually doing it :rollin I will continue my quest for knowledge
