PRICE WARS

So as all we see main sales point now PRICE DOWN.

Like tinters famous USD, EUR, GBP 99 hackshop, "factory-direct" retailers and also MFG's.

So - what to do?

Play their LOW game and tint for 88 and sell with 0,5% profit - or go other way?

Quality, publicity, advertising and so on, so on?

Many shops like to try and hold themselves above the competition. That is all well and good if you can sustain your overhead costs with premium price points and the custy is not a price shopper. In all the years we have been at this I have never seen so many low bids on comm work. Real low !

If folk phone me and I they think im too expensive I say to them " if your not interested in quality and purely driven by price then I'll save you the hassle and phone so&so they are crap but you are purely driven by price" gets them thinking :bingo

Theres now 3 hack companes up here in glasgow tinting cars for £100 LOL, f'n Desperados :D

Best thing is do good job and word of mouth soon kicks in :D

Tons of my work is repeat business or recomondations and I charge a fair price for a fair job

I've got a few rolls I go with when the punches come in,,

Today my phone was buzzing all day long,,

out of 14 calls ,, I lost 5 , did 4 today 2 for tomorrow at shop 2 for tomorrow evening at customers house after 5 pm, 1 Friday at 9 am at shop,

the 5 I lost,,

1 customer wanted solid mirror tint darker than 20% ,,, <<< I said no way jose, end call

2 customers wanted limo on front doors,, <<< I said sorry sir I don't do that but I'll be happy to do your windows with 35% ,, end call

1 customer said her father was law enforcement at he lets her get that dark of film(limo again, 4% specifically) , she just got a brand new Suzuki or something,, I told her I would say No to him just as fast,,, end call

1 customer straight up told me I was way to high with my prices......... mmmmm go figure ,,

when it starts to become all about price, I change the thought process by asking them questions,,,

1st Q I ask is what "brand of film" are they selling?? 30% customers say I don't know!<< those customers choose me for there tint needs in the end.

2nd Q is a 2 part Q, I ask have they ever had tinted windows in the past and what was there experience..? 30% say Yes and the film was nasty purple and bubblely /can't see out,, and 30% say there window tint was perfect without any flaws for over 10 years or better,,, 10% say No,,never have had tint.

1st 30% I give them a few facts about window films (UV,heat rejection, metalized films vs Nr films) as well as a few name brands of films, and that leads to why cheaper is not always a better choice of savings..

2nd 30% ,thats why carry a better film and in return you get what you pay for.

3rd 30% , I express my condolences on having good luck with films and ensure them they are in good hands by sealing the deal with offering my best films with great warranties/paper work ,, oh and having several legal tinted cars in the parking lot for them to examine to see if I can tint...

the last 10% are the easiest,, get them everytime

ok ,,, so out of the 14 calls if I do every single one then that means I closed on 60% of the calls

I lost 10% straight up because of price,,

and 30% was illegal turn downs

this was pretty much my day today, tomorrow I'll repeat the same process and the only difference from day to day are the % numbers

some days it's all about price and brand does not matter ,,, either way I stick to my guns and I don't budge on price,

:bingo

these are desperate times, some think low balling will get them through this, but I think it just will prolong the inevitable.

you are so right :poke

I have a close friend that tints for the low ball prices,, he told me that he's doing 3 a day because of it....

I told him yeah well,,,, I can do 1 a day and make as much if not more,, ,, so go ahead and sell yourself as a cheap installer. BTW let me know how that works out for you over the next few years,,

had a woman hung up on me today after she asked could the film be removed if they wanted to (on a high single roof window) and I explained IF they ever wanted it removed the process, to which she ranted on about me scratching her glass!! FFS!! I hadnt even put any on or given her a price and she blew me out on how if the eventuality of it ever being removed I would scratch her glass!!! :poke

slightly off topic ...

Suppliers should stop selling film direct to retail and they should stop supplying the bottom feeders who do not invest in their business for growth. :lol
