Today I met with 3m for their tint class. I am a master installer of 14

years and wanted to learn more. I also wanted to apply their training and

tint a real time vehicle. My 2004 BMW 330xi. It was a one on one class so he

dicided to train me on my car. We tinted the back window about 4 times on

and off then moved on to the sides. The while car was completed and class

was over. I left and went to the hotel, followed by out to dinner without

any issues. On my way back to the hotel I noticed after removing the key the

air bag light was dimly flickering and the car was still beeping like the

key was in the ignition. The radio then turned back on.  The odometer stays

on and cycles between milage, mpg, time, temp etc. I also notced my brake

lights flashing. I am at a hotel now and had to disconnect my battery to

insure I can start the car in the morning to return to 3m. I am thinking the

extra water on the rear deck and c pillars from

Tinting over and over may have gotten something wet. I called the trainer

and he recommended you and your forum. I am hoping come morning the issue

has dried out. If the car is running there are no issues which leads me to

beleave under full voltage it's good so in the off position the possible

condensation may be completing a circuit. Have you seen or heard of any

issues like this? Can you offer any insight?  Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Matthew McConnell

By "master installer" I'm assuming you don't mean window film.

Some BMWs have electronic control modules located in places that can get wet during tinting. I'm not sure if that model BMW is a vulnerable one, but it sounds like it got wet.

That's not good news. It can run into the mid 4 figures to replace on some models. :lol

That's what I was thinking :lol Big expensive problems like yours are the reason I use trainers to teach. That rear window should be a snap to form, how were you shrinking it?

Welcome to TD

Cheers

Give us a update in the morning :lol Prolly don't want to practice on your side windows tomorrow! Wish I knew more about the electronics to shed some light on the problem for ya. Might have cooked it and might dry out :lol

You guys are correct for master installer. It refers to 12v. I install accessories and do fabrication. I have been building show cars for quite some time. As you guys know most install shops have a tinter come in not already in house. I have come down to on of 3ms training facilities to learn how to tint. We completed the entire car yeaterday and other than the electrical hicup everything went quite well. It's morning now and I am crossing my fingers. I'll leave the doors and trunk open today as well. I have to return there today for dinoc training. Thanks for the insight.

How many days training are you doing for auto and then flat glass? :spit

I am surprised they were willing to train on a BMW, I would have paid for a rental car for the day before touching a car like that for training.
