I'm moving into a brand new unit next month, its about a mile from where I am now but BT are telling me I cant keep my phone number because its on a different exchange, anyone found a way round this?? I don't believe in this day and age we can build tunnels under the sea and international space stations but we cant move a phone number a mile along the road

Call divert from the old number to the new. I know loads of businesses that have done that.

And good luck with the move.

the divert costs a fortune, you end up paying for every incoming call, every pennies a prisoner!! tight budget for the move

just a BT automated message telling them the number has been changed, im sure bt can set that up for a while untill the new person takes over if someone is moving into the old one?

Check out Bt business one plan includes your mobile ,broadband and landline.

You get free divert to your mobile(old number) from landline ,saved me over 300 a quarter.

Only down side is the phone selection is rubbish so you will need to buy your own.

Call your local bt business sales and talk it over, they can also put a comparison together based on your existing usage to show savings

Good luck, unit and image is everything to some customers(the sort you want anyway)

thats rough you would think you can still use the number even if its on another exchange, telecomunications in Australia are just as bad ! recently a customer of mine with a security installation business had their business number at home as they ran the business from there they now have a factory unit and the operator (optus) said they cant transfer it as its a domestic not commercial number and hes had the number for 10 years and he spent 2 days full on the phone to them thats a lot of phone calls and long calls at that I think in the end they are allowing him to keep it but they tried telling him they own the number and they do as they like and bad luck.

I dont have a land line at my workshop at this stage but when I do I most likely won't list it I will continue to list my mobile , a mobile will never have problems with exchanges or zones it can be used nationwide !

personally I think a business advertising solely a mobile number doesn't look as professional as a land line
