Two bids - two companies - one owner

So.... homeowner got a couple quotes for window tinting in their home. Two of the bids came from two different company names.... both companies are owned by the same guy. Both using the same film.. one quote was high and one quote was low.

Would you inform the homeowner what the deal was????

I don't see nothing wrong with it. Maybe he has different installers working for different wages and some are willing to work for less.

Roach, yes, tell the homeowner! There is a company here that does the same thing. Ever heard the name Ray Levy? Owns a distributor AND a window tinting company.

I personally think its wrong to have two names. I have two names, one for auto tinting and one for flat glass, and thats b/c we re-branded in 08. Im trying to get the other name extinguished from the web but Yahoo takes their sweet merry time changing my info. I still get two calls from the same person asking how much to tint their car, which means they are finding my other name. Changing names takes forever to complete!

Just curious if the first or second quote was higher. Maybe he used the second quote to make his first one look more appealing to get the work????? :boogie

if you tell the homeowner and the other biz owner finds out, youre gonna be in for some bad blood. and he already outnumbers you

He only out numbers him in company names (and maybe employees). I think the customer should know IMO.

Yeah I don't know what his story is.... I was just shocked when I heard what he was doing. Seems wrong, IMO. I see no problem with having a company for FG.. and one for auto. Fine... technically two different things. But to have two companies with the sole purpose is to work the numbers so you win more quotes.....

I have no idea what order the quotes came in, so I don't know if the lower one was first or what.

As for bad blood... I don't know him and he doesn't know me.... I already have some bad blood with a tinter or two, so it's not really any big deal to me. I have more tinter friends then enemies... so far. LOL

its actually a smart business plan. but it all depends on how far apart those prices are, meaning how high and how low.

but if you badmouth him, both his shops will find a way to badmouth you. 2 vs. 1 to the customer.

I find it best to use what you do well to get the job. dont resort to trash talking

a lot of my reps have said that in FG this is very common because you dont really need a shop.

not so common in auto cuz you would double your overhead to fight over the same customers
