mates Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Hey guys , I recently quoted a job in which I need sort of a painters style platform at about a meter high, I wrote on the quote the following "* work platforms may be needed, if these need to be hired there could be an additional cost, wouldn’t be large just enough to reach around 3 windows at a time." now instead of hiring one ive gone out and bought one for $300, do you think im able to add any additional cost onto the job ? of course I wouldn't add its purchase price just a certain amount maybe similar to what hire cost would be ? this company im doing the job for is a massive confectionery company here in Australia, im not sure when you ask for more money if you have to supply invoices from a hire company or not as ive never had to hire anything before with my flat glass work! im open to hear what everyone thinks ! thanks guys
Guest SIR TINTSALOT Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 I usually charge an additional $75 for a scaffold rental and an additional $75 for labor because you have to put it up , take it down and lug it around
Guest scottydosnntkno Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I usually charge an additional $75 for a scaffold rental and an additional $75 for labor because you have to put it up , take it down and lug it around only I have a $150 equipment charge that covers either me bringing my own ladder(s) or renting indoor scaffolding up to 3 high($23/ea level/day). Anything else(extra scaffold, tarps, blind removal, man lifts)is extra
TomTint Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I dont itemize for extra ladder / stage work. For the 300 bux you spent on the equipment, just think of it as a investment in yur business. Now you have the proper tools at your disposal when you need to use them.

Guest SIR TINTSALOT Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 My friend owns a scaffold and ladder business. I get them for $40 a day. So if I'm charging $150 for rental and labor I make an extra $110. I think it's fair for the climbing and labor of putting it together and stuff. The ones he rents me are pretty big and cost about $1200 new so I don't think it's worth it to pay for one and then have to store it at my business.
Balzyone Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Not sure about where you are, but the equipment purchase is a write off on taxes here
Guest SIR TINTSALOT Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Yeah but you still got to store the equipment which is pretty bulky. I only use scaffolds like 3 times a year so I'd rather pay $120 a year to rent from my friend. If I did a large volume with the equipment then I could see dishing out the money for my own, but for now my arrangement is good for me
Guest Almo Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 I would not charge for this. If you charge for it you have to pay tax on the money charged. If it's an investment, you get to write part of the cost off.
Tint Wife Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Not sure about where you are, but the equipment purchase is a write off on taxes here It's the same here.. I would not charge for this. If you charge for it you have to pay tax on the money charged. If it's an investment, you get to write part of the cost off. The tax payable is minimal and he can still claim the purchase expense as a deductible, as well as depreciation for the next few years....... Mates do you have an accountant? Learn what you can claim on. I add a small equipment charge on jobs that require extra equipment set up or hire.
