Removing film on residential single pane glass

I have 8 large windows I will be removing tint off of and re-tinting next week. I am just curious as to what is safe: 1) can I soak them overnight with simple green covered with plastic (do you think it will help?) 2) can I use a steamer to remove the film or will it get the glass to hot?

I hate to sound like a novice but I do not normally even do these types of jobs (r & r's on residential glass).

Thanks in advance, TTC

I wouldn't try the steamer unless the glass is tempered.

Are the frames painted? I think simple green might damage paint sitting overnight.

I believe the frames are metal but they might be painted!

I just pull the tint off spray on sprayaway glass cleaner and use my 6" blade to remove, one smooth motion right to left. Just what I find the easiest for myself.

We did a few windows on this same house about a months ago and it is 20 year old auto film that tears about ever 2- 3" :beer the windows never really get warm from the sun because they are covered by lots of trees. we did tried a hair dryer and it seemed to help :lol normally we :lol from removals on homes but this is an old friends moms house.

You might try baggin em with even just soap n water. It might soften up some after as many hours as

possible. I would use white trash bags though, just in case.

Long shot for sure, but if you have the access the day before, worth a shot. good luck!

Dilluted simple pink will make it go faster. let it soak for about 15 minutes then respray and scrape. Cover any painted surfaces and wear chemical resistant gloves.
