To be honest...my distributor has taken even more than 10% off I think...I havent figured it out yet...but as soon as I do...I will post it.

Over the years, I have learned that the only accurate way to measure the actual footage on a roll is to unwind it entirely on the floor and use a measuring tape. Of course, this is not very practical because it would destroy the roll.

We deal with several manufacturers and have devised our own way of keeping them "honest":

We take a 60" roll and slit it 24/24/12. We put the two 24" rolls into the inventory and then we unwind the 12" roll on the floor. We have 2 lines painted on the warehouse floor that are precisely 100FT apart.

We have never caught any of them "cheating" and we generally find between 3-7 additional feet on each roll.

Use a micrometer. mic the film, mic the core, do the math then mic from the inside of the core to the outside last wrap of film. Dosent get much more accurate then that and you dont destroy the film.

measuring the thickness will be off a bit depending on the tightness of the winding will it not?

it can , if you stay with one mfg, and or you make sure to tighten the roll, tape then measure. You can also weigh film. Thats how we keep inventory stock levels.
