Tell me if I'm crazy

Shortly after I got my tint stolen I was restocking my supplies and I ordered a roll of 20 True Black. I still had a roll of 35 that apparently they didn't want or couldn't reach at the top of the rack. Anyways, I have had about 3-4 rolls of 20 True Black in the past, I really liked the film, super easy to work with. A couple things that were a little different about the film that I noticed was it was heavy, very hard to handle a 40" roll the liner was super slippery and the whole roll would slide out if you weren't careful, and it had a smell to it, not bad, just unique.

Fast forward to my last order. I got a roll in, first thing I noticed was that it wasn't heavy and the roll didn't want to slide out of the middle, more static to it too. I tried tinting a cobalt sedan, easy car, the film gave me hell shrinking, it barely shrank, then would melt. I noticed the adhesive wasn't very strong and even remade my solution with very little soap to see if it would help. The back window ended up with a bunch of little peanuts on the defroster. Normally you could hide anything in the True Black I was used to, but this wouldn't lay down on the small specks of dust and what not. I passed it off as me having a bad day. The next day my co-worker is doing a mazda 3 hatch. I hadn't mentioned anything to him, but I notice he is already on his 3rd try on the back glass, the film isn't shrinking for him, then burning up super fast just like it was for me. Right away I said does the tint seem different to you, and he agreed. It was more rubbery, like some of the cheapo purple stuff I've pulled off cars, it creases easy and was just very soft feeling.

I talked to Howard, he assured me they hadn't changed anything, and we are in the process of swapping out the roll. Since I needed some film, I went ahead and ordered another roll in the mean time. I got this roll a couple days ago and right away I noticed the roll wasn't heavy, it had a lot of static and wasn't slippery like before. I also noticed that it still didn't have that smell to it. The color texture, everything is different form the 35 I had left over from before.

So tell me, am I crazy or has anyone else noticed a change in the True Black they've ordered in the last 2 weeks.

You're not crazy...

The problem I see with True Black is consistency . . I try to buy 40" rolls and split it for doors because sometimes if you use a 20" on the sides and a 40" on the rear it may look different.. I also noticed this on the EWF Ceramic as well . . . hopefully this gets resolved in time. I too have noticed the adhesive problem and was gonna refill all my sprayers with less solution to see if that helped but maybe its not the solution but the film.. guess we'll have to wait for Howards response.

Your not crazy, I am not a fan of True black at all and Ive used a bunch of it. I dont understand why a film has to have a "special formula" to put it on and if it does need that "special formula" then why does it need to be asked for when ordered. I agree with everyone here that Howard is a stand up guy and I think that why the film continues to sale and thats why everybody continues to try and try again. I gave up and in my opinion only the film is junk. :cool

I do smell a odor from the film, when the liner is pulled. The odor isn't really bad, but ive never smelt an odor from a film w/o the liner. I noticed in when applying 20 and 5 for back glass's. I was ready to throw in the towel on this film, but its geting a little easier. One other thing, I noticed a really cloudy uneven look in the darkness of the 5%, which I heard someone on here posted with the same problem. That funny you mentioned the film feeling rubbery. I was working with true black 35 and the film felt a bit thinner(better imo).

have you ever smelt QDP? Shiat smells horrible when you peel the liner :popcorn

I have no problems with TB, and just got some rolls in yesterday and a few last thursday. Same film to me :popcorn

I think its one of those films that you have to consistently use a lot of, in order to get the hang of it. Kind of like if you were to give me some MMM CS, I bet I would say it sucked until I got used to it :thumb

I love TB, and will never switch away from it as long as its being made.

What I was saying though is I really liked the TB I had before, but these last two rolls are totally different. I can't say if the film itself is different, but the TB I had before and liked had a smell to it, these last 2 smell like nothing. The one that I liked the entire roll would slide out if you weren't careful, these last two don't, even the 35 I have form before is slippery as all hell, but the 2 rolls of 20 in the last 2 weeks aren't. I wish my other roll hadn't been stolen orI would like to actually have a side by side comparison so I can know for sure.

I'm not here to say TB sucks, I mean the first 3ish rolls I had were awesome, I could hardly believe the film was such a great price, easy to work with, nice color, could hide anything in it, but these last two have given me nothing but headaches.

The only thing I noticed about the new rolls is that they do have more static, but thats it. It still shrunk like normal, actually I thought it was a little better. laid down on a new grand caravan like it was nothing, something that last week took a few minutes to do.
