Hmm...

Lookt like they are trying to sell Dow995 for anchoring and barely pushing their own films. I think that I would talk to a solargard dealer, madico or BSF about safety films. Just buy the 995 from a DOW dealer in your area. It will take some practice to get the bead down. You might just want to hire a glazier if you are only going to sell wetglazed installs. If you want to do any other anchoring systems, I would talk to a local film distributor and see what they offer.

Their webpage did not sell me. They kind of bagged the "other " methods, but 995 is what GSA recomends and is what almost all tested systems use. I find it hard to believe that they are using their own formula.

Your reply reminds me of someone who knows it all.

Would never use DOW Corning 995. The original testing by 3M was delayed for 9 months so the results could be altered to 3M's liking, if you want the report we have it.

Silicone sadly should never be used for edge retention as it gasses out and fails in a very short period of time. The 995 is so difficult to install it is a wonder it was ever choosen in the first place.

That is why 17 years ago we developed SSAF SEAL Edge Retention System and last week announced the upgrade to SSAF SEAL II Edge Retention. Developed to adhere to the scratch code from day one! Developed with our product in mind and tested beyond GSA levels.

GSA is not the standard of the world and is a little pathetic when it allows glass fragements within five or ten feet inside a room to kill and maim. Is it that they are allowing American companies that cannot achieve the level 2 pass to be able sell they products? Glass spalling is a failure and a killer!

SSAF International Ltd. is the original inventor of security window film in 1971 and Nick Ashton continues successfully in the business today.

SSAF International Ltd. also launched in 2001 its latest patented security window film SSAF IMPAX Extreme which is at minimum 37% stronger than any of the comparable security window film (175 or 275 micron.)

Please contact me if you so wish.

We learn each and every day and when protecting lives, SSAF International Ltd. has never had a failure and will continue in improving our security regarding glazing.

No know it all... but from the sounds of both posts, experienced yet not fully informed. :inot

Do tell, SSAF, of this 995 shortcoming... :inot

Is it 3M's Dow Corning 995 or a Dow Corning 995 being manipulated by 3M :lol

If it's 3M manipulating Dow Corning to suit their needs, that just goes to show that if it happens at that level anyone can manipulate anything to suit their needs... including you, metint and any other person or company out there. :lol

Pure and simple, silicone gasses out and does not adhere after 18 months to 36 months no rocket science just facts!

Would never use DOW Corning because of that fact

Sadly Gary Blake is not a well man in many ways and is in hospital as we speak.

His MS has got worse.

Not rocket science if you know the science... my understanding is it all outgases in some form or another... doesn't matter who makes it as their's or makes it for private labeler's.

Too many peddling their wares, already, to a crowd who may have heard it before...
