I was at BMW of S.F. today and was suppose to tint one of the sales person's new 5 series. This car has changed dramatically. The door panels looks really tricky but I think I figured it out. Also the rear window looks pretty easy to tint but I know it would be similar to the newer 7 series with the electronics in the trunk. Sure enough I pulled back the panel and saw a bunch of electronics on the driver's side trunk.

My guess is to stuff a big towel there to collect any solution that drips down there but should actually keep a towel there for at least 2 days because there will be excess water that is still trapped on the rear deck lid and might not drip down unless you are making a turn.

From what I gather, the rear door panels are held together by 2 screws and clips. Pop off all the clips around the door after removing the screws and you are suppose to be able to lift the door panel right up. After you take the panel off, you need to remove this plastic clip off the door panel by depressing the metal tab. Stick that plastic clip back onto the door and when you are ready to reinstall the door panel, just slip the top on the door panel ledge and push the panel right back onto the door. Everything will lock back in and click together.

Do not try to remove the wooden trim like the older models because they do not come off.

In any case, the salesperson decided to wait until I do a couple of his customer's cars first to see if anything happens to the electronics before he does his because he does not want to have any down time from driving his car if it has to go into service for electrical damage.

Has anyone tinted one of these new style BMW 5 series yet? If so, am I correct with my evaluation of door panel removal and caution for the electronics?

I am also going to post this on the tip of the week just in case if anyone runs across one of these cars to tint.

EASY CAR  ENJOY... :uh

for the GASKET.. STEP BY STEP...

1). Roll down the window...

2). get a hammer(tinting tool not the reall hammer) or a knight or some hard card with the handle on top

3). get the gasket puller...

4). Stick the hammer(tinting tool not the carpenter hammer) between the gasket and the pannel...

5). Lay it flat while pushing it in and then pull it back.

6).. GO all the way doing this(best if you start from the side where the door handle is..

7).. it will losen up get your gasket puller and pull the gasket out..

HINT:- its just like the new S500,S430,E320 and all the merc... OR just like the old Bimms without the screws.( you dont need to take out the trim or the screws..) cuz their are non..... :rollin

I tuck the rubbers and the car is easy

I would cover the computer in the truck had a few go bad in the 7 series dont need that headache

Worst part is the rear seat have to fold down that center arm rest and it just gets in the way

easier than last years by leaps and bounds
