Guest Rama Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 A few months ago I got nailed for doing 80 in a 55. Pled not guilty, even though I really probably was, and was going to try to get it dropped or at least reduced. I was hoping something would come up and the officer wouldn't be able to make it, and my ticket would get dropped. And thats exactly what happened! Another guy and myself had both gotten tickets for speeding from the same officer, both tickets were dismissed. Apparently our officer was busy with a case involving dr*gs and explosives and that was more important...Absolutely!!! Whoo Hoo! I am sooooo glad to have gotten it dropped. I have a perfectly clean record, STILL! And, I've been pulled over 3 times in the last year for speeding, talked myself out of the first 2, but couldn't pull it off the third, but didn't need to obviously. Needless to say, I guess maybe I should slow down? Nah, doubt it. The other guy had gotten nailed for doing 97 in a 55, makes me look tame. - R
Guest Meff Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 you were lucky Definately lucky. My brother had that same bs happen to him as well, with the police officer not showing up in court.
Guest H?perOptik Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 no way a cop wont show up if he's due in court here! you guys are lucky! most of us will opt to pay the compound fine and avoid going to the courts.. they are known to dish out really harsh, avoid at all costs! maybe thats why we are so tame?
Guest H?perOptik Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 A few months ago I got nailed for doing 80 in a 55. in case you are wondering, doing 40kmh over the limit here will likely get a fine of about $500 and taking cabs for 5 years! the guy doing 97mph would be in jail, HE SHOULD BE!
Guest DixieGraphics Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 lucky ass!! that would never happen here, if it makes it to the court date you aren't getting out of it! best you could hope for is drop the points and double the fine! ya better take it as a warning and slow yo' butt down!
Guest TINTFXold Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 dont take this personal Tintboy, but when I see someone speeding I get mad not really that they are speeding and risking themselves, but they are risking injury and/or death to the people around them......... it is a pet peeve of mine , big time.... now I would be upset if YOU hurt yourself, but if I didnt know you, my thoughts are I hope that speeders find the nearest creek bed to park in.....
Guest autoreflections Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 I learnt my lesson about 2 mths after I got my license. Had a brand new grand prix GTP and thought I was cool driving it. So Im cruising 120 kms in an 80 zone next thing I know I got cherries behind me. Male officer so I figures I'd be sweet and let off the hook.. Ya think? yeah right. Tried the whole I just got the car today... testing it out.... Know what he answered, my buddy just got himself killed driving the same car you do for the same reason you were speeding... Testing it out... Woke me up...
Guest Rama Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 The whole reason I was going to court to try to fight it was because I was not going 80 in the first place. I know for a fact I was not, several reasons. The truck has something wrong with the board right now and the gas shuts off at 75, real annoying, even a service bulletin on it, was going to take that to court, as well as signed statements from some mechanic shops that it was not capable of that speed for this reason. Second reason was that I had been on that road for 3/10th of a mile. Some how supposedly I was able to go from 0 to 80 in 3/10 of a mile, going up a hill in a truck with 240K mi, that has a 9 in. lift and 36" tires. No, its not a race car. I was probably going 10 to 15 over, but not 25 over. It was a passing lane, had been following someone who was going 35 to 45 in a 55 for 13 mi. and was unable to pass. After we both turned on to the highway, opposing traffic was coming and I had to wait for them before I could get going, which gave grampa slowpoke a head start. I was trying to get up to the top of the hill so I could see if he was close enough for me to pass, but I saw he wasnt' and slowed down anyway. Unfortunately for me, friendly OSP was coming the other direction. BUT I don't think I was anywhere near 80. He told me the other car I was intending to pass was going 43. I was ticketed for violation of the basic rule, I wanted to know how I was breaking that law on dry pavement, very little traffic, broad daylight, in a passing lane, intending to pass someone going well under the speed limit, by the officer's own addmission. Lucky for me, I didn't have to try to convince the judge, as it probably was doomed to fail. The other tickets weren't for much, one was 12 over in Nevada, at night on a lonely stretch of no man's land. The other was 14 over, right after the speed limit dropped from a 70 to a 55 on a freeway, at 2 am, wasn't paying attention to speed reduction. I am not really a crazy speeder, just the wrong place at the wrong time. I do tend to drive with a heavy foot though, usually cover over 60K per year, don't want to spend anymore time doing it than I have to. -R
GusTheTinter Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 No need to explain TB last ticket that I can remeber (for speeding) was in 91 in a new porsche... It was kinda like the movie "gumball ralley" Officer that pulled me over was real cool about the whole thing, and I only got a ticket for 75 in a 65 (which I was glad to pay) His buddy down the road had me dialed in at 115
