here's the stats--

porter-cable 1700 1000 deg 27 cfm 14.3 amps

black & decker hg1000K 1000 deg n/a n/a

wagner industrial 750 deg 23 cfm 12 amps

makita hg1100 1100 deg 14 cfm 12.5 amps

wagner ht1000 1000 deg n/a 10 amps

milwaukee 8975 1000 deg 14.8 cfm 11.6 amps

milwaukee 8985 1040 deg 14.8 cfm 11.6 amps

milwaukee 8988 1100 deg 15.8 cfm 12.5 amps

the only thing that even comes close to the air moving power of the P/C, is the wagner, but it only blows 750 degrees. there's a couple that blow hotter than the P/C, but since they're not moving much air, you'll have to get closer to the film to shrink it. and nothing is even close to the P/C on amps.

now that the technical part is out of the way, let's have a DMC.

the ghosting on the thicker metal films you guys talk about? never have them. EVER.

the "puckers" you guys talk about? never have them. EVER.

problems with the corners on the back glasses "rolling" or "lifting off"? never have that problem. EVER.

creasing the film while shrinking it? never happens. EVER.

melting the film because it gets too hot? never happens. EVER.

going back and heating down fingers that pop up? RARELY happens. and when it does, it's always a very curved back glass.

I used to have all these same problems. before I found the P/C. way back when I first started heat shrinking and used a wagner, then a milwaukee, then a makita, then a bosch, ect.

actual time to cut the film, lay it on the back glass, shrink it, install it, and be done? usually about 20 minutes on most cars.

actual time spent heatshrinking most bgs? usually most can be done in 4-6 minutes

did my very first bug and took me 20 minutes to shrink the back glass. I REPEAT, this was my FIRST ONE. and I took my time because you guys had me worried it was gonna be hard. it was difficult, but not any harder than a stratus coupe.

the little dial on the side of the P/C has never been all the way closed on mine. I usually put it right in the middle, or 3/4 closed when I'm using a full metal film. it's gets as hot as all the other guns except for the makita and the $150 milwaukee. (and we're only talking 100 degrees) so saying it doesn't get hot enough is just trying to find something to complain about.

I'm not singling anyone out, or any particular act they do, but you guys on here do ALOT of stuff I would never do, and think some of it is a little moronic. but I never say anything. everyone has their own way of doing things, and all that matters is the end result.

in my 7 years with solar gard, I only had 4 warranty claims. (and I'm in TEXAS) and NONE of them were for the back glass. but I always used their best films too. and now that I'm using llumastar, I haven't had any problems either.

now, why is this bothering me and why am I getting all worried about it? because, I'm a VERY loyal person. when I find something good, I stick with it, AND I STICK UP FOR IT. (until it, or they, screw me over. COUGHsolargardCOUGH) if no one on here likes it, that's fine. but I feel discredited when ya'll trash it so much. especially when I've tried every heat gun on the market and nothing shrinks film, for me, like the porter cable. and I have had ALOT of success with this heat gun. and I've had two of these for 6 years. replaced the heater element once in each gun, cost $35. how many guns have you guys gone through?

I'm the only member that loves this gun. several people on here have bought it and complained about it. so why do you guys keep buying it? now would everyone PLEASE stop buying this gun? just stick with what works for you.

and TD, can you change this :porter to "don't buy a porter cable"? :shock

I wish I could have gotten one that works as good as the one you have. I am pretty sure mine is not blowing over 1000 degrees. mabey they got some bad parts and the made a bunch of them that are not as good performers as some others they made :shock mine will hardly shrink film at all.

I don't know the origin of this post and maybe it is better I don't - but I think after reading the never-ever's in all the categories I have issues with... I am going to buy one and try it. In 15 years of tinting and 8 years of heat shrink I have never really been happy about it. I'll try anything. Thanks for the info tintshop. :shock

if I could post a short video, I would film me doing a back glass with it. but since I can't, look at my TOTW. I explained in there pretty well how short of time it took to do that particular back glass. me stopping to take pictures nearly doubled the time by itself.
