I just got a email for a low e film . aren't all full metal films more effective then low e? I have never been asked this and would appreciate some imput before I call them tommorrow thanks

It is extremely reflective. All metalized films reflect heat back into the room, about 10% I think.

A low E film will work much better for keeping heat inside the room compared to a reflective silver. Solar gaurd makes on I know, but I'm not a big fan of low e films. The have bit of a rainbow-ish appearance and can be fairly dark.

The reflective films will help a bit. Not a lot though. A 15%silver will stop aprox 10% of the heat from escaping. Low E is more like 20-25%. And the more reflective the film is, the more effective it will be.

I lost all of my sample books, but check out the "U" ratings on each film. The lower the # is the more heat it will keep in the room.

3M has two films called LE35 & LE50 that have pretty decent heat retention #'s. I think that the 50 is around 26% and the 35 is around 37% heat retention. I am not totally sure because we have never sold any of the stuff. One of the big problems with any low-e type film is that the interior reflection is signficant. If you think a 20 silver film is bad at night, a low-e film will be at least 20-30% more reflective than the silver, and with have a copper color to it.

Low-E is popular in Europe and Canada. It reduces heat loss, not heat gain - so if you are up north where it is cold it would be a good option. If you are down South in FLA - like me - it doesn't have much use.

thanks for the info thats what they thought they wanted from the architect but not what they wanted. they were told low e would be the best for glare and heat rejection from the sun there not concerned with interior heat retention much.govt job so they think they knew more then they really did
