WIfe bought a new car but has the basic stereo in it.

She mentioned the sound was not quite as good as she was accustomed to.

I did some checking and found just a basic amp would improve the sound quality, but take it to a Pro to be installed !

One stereo shop started showing me new unit to put indash with an amp and better speakers, started getting up there in price !

I explained being on a budget would only allow for an amp at this time.

All of a sudden, they were too "busy" (no one else in the place) to talk to me any further.

I was not trying to get a deal or beat them down on price, I was only wanting to find out what their price was for this work.

Question being:

How many of you turn down nickle and dime work like this ?

I figure nickles and dimes add up to $$ of profit over the course of a year.

Trunk monkeys are a dime a dozen anymore and thats a whole other industry that is in the sh!tter right now. They must have more work than others that I know cuz they wont turn down work or a sale. Get on crutchfield and order what you want and install it yourself. There are enough people on here to guide you along if you have and questions.

It is a new 2009 she bought, and I'm not messing with the electrical system and risking potential Warranty issues cause I don't know what I am doing.

is she wanting more bass or more loudness? or both?

upgrading the head unit will increase power going into the speakers which will get you more loud,

throwing an amp to the speakers will get you plenty loud, but will kill your factory speakers in no time (especially if you play it loud loud)

leaving your factory cd player and adding a subwoofer in the trunk and taking the bass out of the door speakers will get you louder..

You get what you pay for in anything, IMHO if your just "upgrading" the factory speakers with the cheapest the audio store has... your not upgrading at all.

In your shoes I would consider upgrading the head unit first, and see if she can get the sound she wants out of that, then go into more details with the addition of an amp on the door speakers..

Pretty good....although I disagree with blowing factory speakers with an amp....I have hooked up many small amps 25X4, 50X4 into factory speakers that sounded great, as long as you keep your gains down and its "clean" sound then shouldnt have a problem. Seeing the car as being an 09, I would stray away from aftermarket headunit, most newer vechiles an aftermarket h/u would look out of place. Best thing to do, bang for the buck install a single 10" or 12" sub with a better amp. Get a good quality sub (JL...I like) But save some money and buy the bottom of the line! And spend the big bucks on the amp. (you can never have too much power...but you can have too little) Keep your gains turned down, If your sub is rated at say 200RMS, I would match the amp to put out around 400-500RMS, and you will get the cleanest sound with that set-up IMHO.

It is a 2009 Galant, she wants sharper sound, not loud, crisper sound might describe it ?

She doesn't like a ton of bass, and she doesn't want to shake the body panels, either.

Anyone know what other year Galant Stereos interchange with the 2009 ?

I could find a 6 disc factory unit, and have an amp added ?

If you are talking about the email string that you and I had, which I don't know that you are, I gave you a very economical way of improving the sound without having to add a full size amp with all the extra wiring and labor needed to do so.

Here is what was in the email:

Hey John,

If you are looking to up the sound a little bit this is what I would do first install a head unit that give you the ability to use new media (USB, iPod, or any MP3 player)

CDE-102 - head unit with front USB and 3.5 mm inputs - $

Metra 70-7001 - radio harness to car - $

Metra 99-7012 - dash kit - $

kdce-433iV - ipod cable if you want to do iPod - $

KTP-445 - Head unit add on power pack that is plug and play saving you all the extra money of wiring and labor needed to install an amplifier - $

(I took the pricing out of course)

Then I added in what you might want to do down the road to improve it even more:

That alone will really improve the sound. Then at some point I would replace the factory speakers because you have 6.5" in the front and 6x9" in the back. That setup give you the ability to really upgrade when it comes to speakers without having to cut any extra holes or fabrication.

Here's what I would suggest:

db651s - very nice crisp speakers with on-board cross-overs for your front doors - $

db691 - these have great lower tones and the tweeters are amazing that will help them match up with the sound of your front doors - $

Then you came back with:

I am looking to do this as economically as possible, what years on the Galant Radio interchange with the 2009 ?

I am looking at getting a used Factory in dash 6 disc cd (hopefully with the amp)

Let me know ?

Sorry I didn't get back with you but I gave you the best option I can give you. I don't buy and look for 6 disc factory radios, if you have the head unit I can install it for you. But after you pay for the factory 6 disc and the labor to install it then pay for a full size amp all the wiring and labor needed for that it is gonna cost you even more than what I suggested. And at that point it will just be louder and not crisper like what you were wanting.
