what is an "endorsement on my license" and how do i get one?

I read on here that someone has an endorsement on their license and they can put any shade they want on their vehicle! can someone explain what that is?

I'm not sure how it is in other states, but heres for michigan.

You must have a medical issue relating to UV exposure/brightness. I personally have keratoconus, which is a hereditary decrease in vision and increase in light sensitivity. I wear hard contacts 24/7 in order to help prevent the cornea from deforming into more of a cone shape, but that only helps so much. My eyes, along with anyone else who has KT are extremely sensitive to changes in brightness and bright light spots, so in michigan you can go to the Secretary of state and get a form to take to your doctor which he fills out, along with writing a letter and you return it to the SoS and they send it in for processing. If it is deemed appropriate your are sent a official notarized letter(the infamous "tint letter") that you much keep in your vehicle at all times, and are allowed to purchase a new license which would list "Light Sensitivity" under the restrictions category. Mine lists corrective lenses along with light sensitivity, because due to my condition both of them are deemed as a medical necessity in order for me to operate a motor vehicle safely in the states eyes. Then, you have to forward a copy of the letter and form to your insurance company so they can add it to your file so they are aware of the situation.

Even though I have my entire car tinted, I still wear dark sunglasses all the time unless it is extremely overcast otherwise I am always squinting and have a constant headache.

There are similar things for UV sensitive people, such as cancer patients, etc.

You can't just go in and get one if you want to have dark tint on your windows :lol

What happens in the case of another person using your car, do they get cited since they do not have the endorsement on their license ?

I honestly don't know, I've never had an issue. I assume since the car is in my name its my property so it wouldn't be their fault, assuming its a officer with common sense. Its kind of unreasonable to assume noone else will ever drive your car

      Suntek has always stacked dealers on top of each other, including in the same parking lot. This is one of the reasons why Suntek is marketed as below Llumar...good film but without some of the advantages. FormulaOne is 10 miles with Llumar being lower than that at least the last time I checked. Even then, our rep tried squeezing people in by asking if we're okay with it. Nope. XPEL dealers have grown greatly as many shops have switched off brands like 3M. They have great pricing, film is easy to install even more so than Llumar, and shops are charging a premium so more consistent pricing. Even on Reddit, XPEL is asked about more than any other brand. Just like other brands, there is a buy-in per category and a minimum per year you have to purchase. There is only one other dealer in my city, but they do not offer window tint. We don't offer anything besides window tint, so it works out. Our area is locked down with no new dealers. Now, when looking at the dealer locator, pay attention to the actual address. Even though you look up a certain city, they may list dealers from other cities which I see in my state. I can pull up Atlanta and the top dealer in the state is listed even though they are 30 minutes outside of the city along with a few others. They are also not good about removing shops that are no longer in business. We jumped in when another guy got out of the business and had to remind them to remove that shop. There is another shop a city over that moved to FL like two years ago but still listed.

      Maybe I'm just being more observant.......but it's like dealers are all stacked ontop of each other with *no more region exclusivity *. I have no clue. I'm not in the biz. Just noticed the similar explosion from the 3 ....xpel, stek, suntek

      I've seen the pendulum move from from both extremes multiple times over the years. My standard pitch is that I have been installing for decades and can use whatever I like. This is my preferred brand based on my experience.

      Has the dealership with the brands of Xpel, Suntek etc changed. It was my understanding on the PPF side, Xpel only listed their =higher= volume dealers on their website. Previous to this I was under the impression, like in past days, there was a certain territorial-region exclusivity of X amount of dealers within a X radius I've been doing a brief look and across the board, I've noticed a boatload of Xpel, Suntek shops while doing a google search. My preferred installer is a state over, 2 hrs drive....but it's interesting to see so many dealers that I don't recall seeing in the past. Some of them are literally less than a mile or less within each other. Has the model of dealer - regional exclusivity changed and it's just whomever will buy material is now a dealer ?

      Advise on adding another layer on 3M crystalline

      Yes, you can add another layer as long as the first has no issues. I used to do Llumar Ceramic as the first layer on my SUVs to match the rear privacy glass and add 3M Crystalline 90 for the jump in performance. You will want to go with 70% to get the desired 25-30 range. 3M Crystalline 40 has a brownish hue, the green you're seeing is the stock glass on the CRV. If you want to save a little money, 3M Ceramic IR 70 is another option.

      Xpel stealing accounts from vendors

      As a consumer, I recently looked at the Xpel dealers on their website ( I know it's not accurate for low volume dealers that may not be listed). I will say it does appear that compared to 2 years ago, there it at least double to 2.5X dealers listed for my region than 30 months ago. And even of those listed, it is less than a handful I would use. This applies more to PPF than *tint* dealers

      Advise on adding another layer on 3M crystalline

      Hallo everyone,.. Just seeking adding another layer of tint onto existing 3M crystalline, I understand it is not recommended but doable mostly without issues. Here's the situation, - done 3M crystalline 60vlt on front windshield and 3M crystalline 40Vlt on the rest of the windows. - car is a Honda CRV Reason I'm looking for another layer is to make it darker, but I want to do additional layer only on rear windows and back windscreen, this is to comply with law enforcer by having front windows at 40VLT ( though the law requires 50VLT for front window). Here's the opinions and advise needed - I find that 3M crystalline give a slight greenish hue on the windows. If I add a layer of tint to rear window, will it result in ugly color mismatch? Greenish hue plus dark color kind of mismatched looks. I am thinking of making the rear to be around 25 to 30 VLT when i add another layer, I'm thinking without such a huge difference in darkness, the contrast between front and rear window won't be too drastic, ( and less ugly) - what type of 3M tint is recommend as a second layer to the original crystalline 40VLT ? I try to achieve "consistent" type of look between front and rear window, but just having the rear noticeably darker. I'm thinking that I'll be going back to the same installer, thus 3M tint as second layer seems to be logical choice. - is there any particular 3M tint that works best as a second layer ? In terms bonding or ease of work when applying.? - for the second layer, should I be looking at a VLT of 70% in order to achieve my desired end result of 25 - 30 VLT? base layer CRYSTALLINE 40 VLT plus second layer 70 VLT. -
