In CA covering the third break light with any obstruction (including film) is illegal.

I see so many people who swear by state laws, but I just realized I have been breaking the law for quite some time thinking I was such a good citizen

;)

any thoughts on this? laws in other states?

My understanding of CA law is you must be able to see the light come on from 500 feet back, so it isn't illegal at all.

I stand corrected, I got the rear window section with obstructions and the "functioning lights" requirements confused.

I had a kid come in that wanted a huge windshield strip done. His dad was a high up detective and said he must be 100% legal. In CA we have a law where you can have a clear film a certain length down from the top of the windshield (almost half way down depending on the positioning of the driver-seat and the windshield). The dad understood it as being for tint....

It was pretty hilarious, the detective dad would not let him have 60% on his front windows, but a huge limo strip, well that is legal. I tried to explain it was illegal but they would hear none of it!

thanks for the correction

I dont care what state your in 90% of all tint shop will do illegal install on anything to get your money

I have been doing legal film on cars for years and years here in cape coral and 10 to 30 calls a week get hung up on cause I tell them no to limo tint and they tell me name of another shop theyhave called will . I have some customers try and beg cause my price is better but if they use me they get legal film only. I dont stock limo tint .

I was I could work with the local pd to try and put a stop to limo tint installs on any car or truck

Let me give you guys who tint illegally something to think about. What if, Just what if..... The guy whom you tint with limo or anything else illegal who swears "DUDE I WONT TELL ANYONE YOU DID IT" goes out and kills someone with his car,and some legal D Bag says it was caused in part because of poor visibility out of his windows. How long do you think its going to take for the custy to tell everyone he can that it was you that tinted his car and you told him it was legal. Guess who else is going to get sued or worse. Just something to think about when you break the law for a couple hundred bucks.
