Illegal fitment across Oz

Recommended Posts

Hey listen up Aussie tinters and spread the word!

There is so much illegal car film going on right across Oz at the moment that this has to stop and this includes the once sacrosant front windscreens.

If we don't and let me tell you now, these chickens are going to come home to roost big time and bite all on the arse.

eg. Got told by my Sydney distributor a couple of days ago that they had a car in that had 5% all round and 35% on the front screen which was to be pulled off.

I urge all to heed the regulations or we may find the fitting of any car film anywhere being made illegal and wipe out a huge part of the industry....no point crying then when it's too late.

ive been told that NSW police are pushing to ban driver and passenger film fullstop but from behind driver and passenger to maintain 35% VLT. but apparently this is solely NSW police and not the roads and traffic authority as they cannot suggest any safety concerns with 35% VLT on the front 2 windups.

it would be interesting to see if they could ban window film as anyone who gets skin cancer could partly blame not having the right to protect their skin when in their car.

I do see what your saying and thats how our government acts australia wide they see some ill3gal sh!t going around so all of a sudden everything is banned.

Free country , my ass.

now ive got a shop I keep it all legal, had to turn down a NSW police officer that wanted darker than legal claiming hes allowed it , that was interesting. needless to say he didnt call me back.

on a different note I am very confused how privacy glass is legal and "safe" yet if I put a 15 - 18% film on the windows rearward of the driver that vehicle is defectable for huge safety concerns. also I as a tinter cannot even put a 70% film onto privacy glass to stop peoples children from being burnt by the sun as privacy glass is just a dark glass it has no film that stops harmful rays.

it makes it hard when dealerships charge a lot more for privacy glass then the customer realises it does not protect its purely aesthetics then they come to a tint shop and they have to refuse their right to sun protection cause it would be illegal.

I get the same thing in ballarat..... I do fit out illegal jobs but I do not I repeat DO NOT do front screens...wtf????? how dumb do you have to be before you realise that this is a bad idea........ I make my customers sign a waiver against law suits and any legal issues... cause it's so hard to compete with other dealer's that charge low prices for low quality. I make sure my customers know that it's illegal and offer them a combo with 35% fronts first and then leave it up to them..... I reckon I have never had a p plater say he/she wants the legal option....... their risk. lol

Dev, We are heading for the same issues here in Kiwiland.

All of the boys have been buying film at Supercheap and Repco and slapping 5% on almost everything, if not 5% then mirrors.

In the early 90's there was a blanket ban on tint here and it absolutely poked the automotive industry and everyone went whoring themselves out to flat glass.

AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, WE NEED TO GET OUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND AND EDUCATE OUR INSTALLERS AND ALSO PARTS STORES ON THE LAW!

If this happens again here it wont be pretty, Everybody PLEASE LISTEN. This issue is REAL and will CRIPPLE the industry on both sides of the Tasman.

Yes I do feel strongly about this problem, thanks for bringing it up Dev, mate.

Goodonya Leon.

I was only saying a few days ago to the long suffering wife hearing my calls of concern over this issue for years about how there is no accountabilty within our industry and no repercussions nor penalties for illegal fitters.

I do remember the hell of a mess your NZ got into with the ban and how it crippled automotive applications.

But you know what mate? Window tinting has a knack of attracting the flotsam and jetsam of todays' workforce society because these guys doing it illegal can't get a job in the real world.

Now you may say that's a bit unfair and harsh but I can tell you it's a fact!

Until we get a situation where the relevant police authorities get fair dinkum universally in both OZ and NZ and fines for infringements of VLT laws become the norm, then this sore will continue to fester forever.

Just have a look on car forums and related topics on window tinting and see the amount of posts where guys are having 5% done "and no cops have pulled them over."

I'm absolutely fed up with these installers putting at jeapody my industry career and the same goes for our film wholesalers not crushing the flow either.

P155 week Leon the lot of them!

Dev it is a $600 fine here for illegal overlays, or a Green or Pink Sticker.

Green Sticker - Defective vehicle, must be repaired and new warrant of fitness issued.

Pink Sticker - Defective vehicle and non operation order, must be repaired and new warrant of fitness issued.

I was loving it at the beach at new years watching all the pink stickered cars cos of lowering but not many cos of tint, hell there were guys with mirrors rolling around on their Econovans with flipped leave springs. I said to a cop wtf is with all the illegal tint and them getting away with it. He replied so what is illegal I shook my head and told him to get a meter!!

All in all there is f**k all being done to regulate the industry unless you join the iwfaanz and play by the rules all ok. If you dont join they cant do s**t to ya!

Maybe film dists should only sell to approved installers or something, I dont know.

Leon,

I have a real issue here with the association and haven't supported them at all with my membership dues for one reason.

The bastards are totally castrated and are about as useless as a eunuch in a harem.

They show no balls when it comes to enforcing strict guidelines with illegal film fitment because they are frightened to appear as constraining the right to trade....what a lot of hot cockk.

The association reckons they can't do anything so WTF do they even have one then? Nice back slapping over a few cocktails I reckon....good old boys' club but don't ruffle the feathers.

BS!

You nailed it there man! They are the only ones that issue the VLT cert stickers here too, unless you send your custy to the vehicle testing station and then they dont have a meter either!

I am going to get my own stickers made up, does the same and advertises at the same time.

If the association really had legitimate tinters concerns at heart, then why not trounce out those that they know are tinting illegally when they get informed about it?

Don't stop there either.......make it be known who was the supplier/distributor too.

But you know why they won't? Because the association is full of the very people making illegal films available and the all mighty dollar prevails over everything.

I've lost count how many times I've brought up this topic with them but to prove a point, in all my years I've only ever fitted nothing darker than 35% all round day in day out and survived quite comfortably.
