hey guys I ahvent done much flat glass but was getting a haircut the otherday and haridresser says she was thinking aobut tint on shop front windows.

anyway I didnt have a tape on me at the time but they appeared to be over 60 inches wide which I use johnsons and they only have 60" wide film.

how do you guys do a seem join do you do it like with auto when you two piece a back window and use a straight edge to cut the film at the join or do you align 2 natural edges up ?

also what sort of solar absorption is safe it gets afternoon sun for a few hours only with a little shade from a scummy little tree out front, it is laminated glass . im thinking around 30% solar absorption?

one last thing , she is getting some sign writing done on the window ive never tinted over sign writing (vinyl stickers im assuming) before is there anything I need to know or just go straight over the top ?

thanks guys !

g'day... double cut the film. also pull your first peice as usual, then flip the second peice so you have matching edges. makes for a nicer install as you dont see a color difference as much.

slight overlap seam for me. Def flip the factory edges together. Absorption depends on the window and glass type. Lettering should go on the outside of the glass not the inside.....

How about just continue to do auto glass and leave the flat glass to the FG pro's. You dont want to have things go wrong and have to find a new place to get ur hair cut.

I learned auto first, then learned fg. It takes a little time to learn but I wouldn't discourage him. I would say he needs to practice on his friends/families houses first. First thing to learn is reverse rolling. If you can't do a 67x104 window by yourself, or a 72x48 arch by yourself, you shouldn't be doing flat glass. :twocents

the other day I did a window that was 128" x 123" all by my self, and it was 7 mill film too, Tommorrow I get to do one 158" x 83" (153" wide by the way).......but the biggest window I ever did was 9.5' x 27ish ' (yes thats feet though we had like 5 guys! one on each level of the scaffold and one on the ground ) my smallest window was less then 1" x 1/4 " very annoying ruinied about 5 peices ............talk about the waste factor

thanks for the feedback, I have done some flat glass but not much I wish to offer flat glass and auto services to customers !

I will ignore the negative comments as everyone starts somewhere and I will be running every job past my supplier before hand.
