Here I go again.... commerical bid

So I get an email from a company looking for a quote. They CC: the email to another local tinter. :rollin

I don't think that guy is on here, but I dunno. I couldn't find much about him on the interweb other then that he does cars, and does them well. I don't know if he does flat glass or not.

The job is big.. 1300 sq/ft. give or take. I would love to get the job.... of course, I haven't seen it yet so maybe I won't really want it. lol

I had pretty much given up on commercial bids that are far away, but it's on the way to another job, so it's not too bad.

I evidently suck at commercial bidding, since I haven't gotten any of the jobs I've bid on lately... so either I'm too high, or too low. I'm thinking to price this at my normal rates and just let it play out.

But the thing I'm not exactly thrilled about... if they sent the email to myself and another tinter... maybe they already got who they want and they just need to get two other bids.... with no intention of going with either of us.

Anyone ever have that happen?? (Someplace emailing you requesting a bid along with cc'ing another shop) And I honestly don't even know where they got my name from... it's my home email address, not my business email address. Which I thought was also odd...

Never been CC'ed before.

But one time I showed up at the house and the other tint shop had left a folder outside with samples and their estimates.

Even though I saw their prices (WTF, $4.50 a square foot for vista "ceramic"?) I still bid it the same I would have.

Yeah, resi jobs I have no problem with... you can sell yourself a lot more then on a commercial location where all they want you to do is fax over a quote.

After I see the job I'll have more of an idea how to price... high sq/ft, but I don't know the condition of the windows, glass, ladder work, etc.

I just hate putting time into something that has already been decided and they are just going through the motions just to get a quote. :rollin

I know that's how the game works... but I just don't like it.

When you email back the price....CC the other tinter. LOL.

Hahahaha. Yeah right? :rollin

I almost feel like calling the other tinter up and seeing if a) he's interested in putting in a bid and b) come up with a general price so it ends up, hopefully, being a matter of who sells the best rather then some price issue.

I've been on bids where the customer had all the bidders show up at the same time. That was unusual to say the least.

I am actually fearing this...not that we aren't already above our competition, but the way sparks could fly during an estimate like that.... :rollin

Back when I was working for someone I remember going to hang film samples and there was another tinter then... We weren't real close to each other... and I don't think we really said anything - maybe a nod but that's about it.

For commercial jobs, it wouldn't bother me that much... but if someone did that for a resi job.. that would annoy me rather much.
