Get your minds otta the gutter ! This is a question about tinting !

A used only Dealer wants me to tint his cars, I told him my price, he wants it done for less.

He doesn't care about lifetime warranties, he just wants them to look nice long enough to sell.

A coupla months generally.

I have known this guy for about 12 yrs, so he is not just a cold call used car dealer. He is located in a complex of about 40 other used only dealers, I tried the "get me 10 cars from the other guys, and I will do one for your price" approach, but no go on that yet.

I am thinking bottom of the barrell cheapo film, (might have to fight Tint Terrorist for this stuff?) slap it on and do it for his price.

What are your thoughts on this ?

are your prices (origanal) based on your film cost or your workmanship/quality?..if it baseed on the latter ...you are not going to far well lowering your cost and going with a cheap film..you will have to lower your quality to come out on top in the long run..and that isnt good business if you ask me. :lol2

Tell the dealer to take a price cut, no matter how low he gets you to go, he will up the price and make more profit than you are installing the film for. Charge the same as any other customer and let the dealer take a cut if the price is to high for the customer.

I wouldn't do it for less and would never use a "cheap" film to try and cut costs. All it will take is one person finding out that you are the one that tinted the car and it looks like crap for whatever reason. Then you will gain the rep for being less than you are.

So you buy cheap film, thereby saving maybe $15 per car in materials. I don't know how you price your work, but I'd have to take one hell of a hit on my retail price to get to where the average dealer wants to pay. A $15 savings does NOT offset the difference between the price the dealer wants to pay and retail price. I aint taking a hundred dollar hit on price no matter WHAT film I use. The labor and craftmanship are the same whether you use good film or cheap film. I have never seen the logic in that marketing scheme.

So..........To answer your Q, unless you're starving, I'd tell the dealers that this is thier price, take it or not. (and personally, I'd prefer NOT!!) There could be a 10 or 20% discount for VOLUME (10 or more cars), but my price is my price. It's what I am worth.

WHY in the world would anybody use cheap film to try and compete with hacks or get dealer business?? Sure you save a couple bucks on the materials, but look at the hit you take on price? :lol2:lol2
