I read that you can, once the tint dries, cut the film right where the dot matrix starts, and then tape it off and use a certain kind of paint, so you dont have the white-ish line outside.

I have a mini cooper, the dots on my rear side windows, and back window have a small dot matrix all the way around the glass (not large like the top of some windows on some cars) so its small enough to paint.

I just got it tinted, and about half of the dot matrix on one of the side windows is covered perfect, blends with the rest of the glass real nice, no white line.

alot of it isnt though, some in patches, which looks worse.

how should I go about fixing this, being that its already tinted?

Your best bet is to take it back to the tinter and discuss it with him

welcome to the board :thumb

If it's less than a week, then push over the dots with your thumb nail. If it's older, then get used to them because it will look like :thumb if you try what you're talking about :lol6

Whatever you do do, don't try and cut it back and paint it! It will most likely look worse if you do. Your best bet is to live with it, and write the car manufacturer telling them that the dots are a complete unnescesary pain in the arse, and recommend they make the dots internal or stop all together.

You can trust the fact tinters hate those dots far worse than any one else.

Hahha good idea writting the letter lol.

Ill get a good pic of it tomorow in the day, if it was all white, I would live with it, but half the window is good, the other half is white. Ill try and push it with my thumbnail though. anyone in tampa that can tint this and do the glue thing to not have any dots?

If you just got it done, the part that is not white yet will most likely be white soon. What day was it done on 12/??/07 ? I really can't imagine any installer trying to cut n'paint or peel n'glue that 2/3 inch of dots. It most likely would look worse.

if it was just done...it may be still drying..and eventually it will all become uniformed..if not...the installer has nothing to do with the making of the glass or the car..if you are not happy with the outcome there is not much he can do...we do the best we can with what we have to work with..and these days..the car makers are making these cars with this crap on there..and we (the tint shops) have to deal with customers not happy the way the tint does not stick to it..and we cant help it. it is something the car makers have to deal with...not us...in my opinion.

I agree. it was done today (to the other guy that asked)

ill wait a few days and see how it turns out.

I wish I had some factory tint on the glass (not 100% clear glass) becuase then id just paint the rear windows. im installing a wall from the front seats back with an 18" sub, so the back windows will never be seen.

actually now that I think about it, if I had factory tint, id just put some black vinyl behind it. but I thought about putting black vinyl on the glass with no tint, but it may not match the front windows, and im very picky about tint matching, thats why the dots are bothering me lol

again take it back to the installer and discuss your options with him also :evilgrin
