Dot Matrix

I've dealt very simply with the dot matrix problem to eliminate the white edge look by going over it with about an 800 grade wet and dry sandpaper. Doing this takes the shine off the top surface of the little bubbles and also lowers the height of them. Then just give it all a good wash off. It is important to apply the film as soon as after the final clean as the dot matrix actually releases I understand a gas that prevents a good bond. Special attention needs to be made so not to scratch the glass itself and why you can't use a heavier grit wet and dry. It is still quite tricky to sand off the lower edge of some rear screens but I just attach the sand paper to a flexible flat stick. Once dry just go back around again and give it another push down and you will see no white out only where you may not have sanded properly.

Using a 1200 grade wet and dry you can also remove metal marks on glass caused by rubbing of ladders and the like which is hard to remove and looks unsightly to the customer especially behind a dark tint. It is important to only sand carefully exactly where the metal marks are.

Good tinting!!

well, I been doing dot matrix thisaway fer 'bout 2 decades: prep the matrix area depending on the vehicle. (this is where there is no substitute for experience) example: on older vehicles...use a little 409 and 800 grit wet.

tint glass as usual being careful to squeegee the matrix area really really good. pull the installed film off of the matrix, rinse with plain o' H2O, then squeegee it back down making sure to dry the edges real good.

step 12: (he he) pull the installed film back off of the matrix and let hang 'till the adhesive is tacky. usually takes about 15-20 min. on a hot phoenix, san diego, etc. etc. day.

step 39: take a hard card (I like the blue butterly for step 39) wrapped with a halfway decent paper towel, and carefully remount the film to the matrix area being very very very careful NOT to trap any air. presto chango bro....and it rooks berry berry gerd for minny minny moon cycles.

What if the matrix has defogers or radio antenna? Like the 2007 BMW coupe? Could you still sand lightly?? :rimshot

no need to sand newer vehicle matrix. on these cars, I use a 50/50 409 solution and a teflon scrubbie pad. on newer cars, oxidation has not set in, so generally there is no need to grit. a good rule of thumb: if black appears on a white towel rubbed on the matrix, a little 800 might be in order.

thanx for the reply bro.
