A note for the newbie tinters

I've seen this B4 and thought I'd put a quick post out on it. I just got finished doing an removal and retint on a Subaru Forrester that was freshly tinted from out of town from an out of town dealer, the guy was so pissed at the job, he had me redo it and is making the dealer reemburse him. Dirty job, contamination, etc..a hack job for sure what is suppose to be an easy car.

Now the tip ..when doing FRAMELESS cars ..keep your scraper blade AWAY from the car ..or at least AWAY from the rubber peice on the 2 front roll downs. Whoever tinted this thing is going to be on the hook for splitting the rubber on a brand new Forrester..and they aren't cheap..can't blame it on age when its a new car. I'm just glad I pointed it out to the customer B4 I started stripping it or I would have got the blame for it instead of the newbie that did it since the customer never noticed it. Thank God for my inspection with the customer policy I have prior to doing a job..it just saved me hundreds. Customer now happy with tint job..and now on a rampage when he goes back to the dealer :smoker

Over the last few months I have found more shops opening around us in the UK and more crap jobs being turned out. Now everyone has to start somewhere but to be a "professional" window tinter takes time not a three day or weeks training course. Probably six months and years later your still learning.

Recently we have had two calls from customers who have picked up new cars from dealerships tinted by newbie companies with bubbles etc in windows. Customers have backed the cars to the dealerships because of the quality of the tint job. One was a £50,000 car. I would say to any newbie - stay away from new cars unless you can do them clean - without bubbles or damage - cause u r fcuking things up for those doing a good job.

Do the film suppliers not realise that this is harming the indsutry - if they want to supply everyone and anyone with film then they should supply comprehensive training - or some sort of approval/accredited system which is regulalry monitored. Otherwise once again they are going to have short term sales growth and damage the industry.

Thankfully in the UK I hear the police are taking more interest in tint shops. Apparently action is being taken against a couple of shops carrying out very illegal front window tinting expect the :eyebrows to hit in the new year :lol2 . vent over

Just recently in the consumer forum there was a guy flipping out and having a heart attack over that very thing on his WRX.

If its the thread I'm thinking of , that guy pissed me off by generalising about the whole industry. According to him, from memory, he said is this just how u tint guys do it. Heres a guy looking for a cheap job (hook up) who thinks all tinters turn work out like the %&$# photos he showed.

I take pride in my work and while I make mistakes I strive for perfection with integrity - u must understand dd how frustrating it is to have someone undervalue experience in an industry u enjoy where so many work so hard.

This board is a good place to vent albeit politely to customers ,when all day long they get yes sir no sir. Again most customers are great but guys like that get treated well during the day but on here I have no real time for them.

I tell my students that tinting can be like kissing frogs (or goats :eyebrows ). Just kiss the pretty ones until you can just pick um up kiss um put um down and do it again….. Or just tint the easy cars until you can tint um without thinking and slowly work your way up to the ugly ones. Dealerships can be very abusive with new guys and push them way beyond their limit way way to fast. Then crappy work and unhappy people and before long burnout of the new guy because of stress and then the dealer wants a new one!!!!

I think I’m one of if not the oldest here on the board and I still learn more about tint every day. When you stop learning you become a dinosaur pretty quick. :fdup

No, the only way I'll save a bit of time is to see others tint ..I can read all I want, but it isn't going to happen ..not like I'm slow ..just thought I'd try other techniques out there :fdup

As far as the other thread goes , yeah, I remember that one now :lol2

The other comments about "in house" training is so true..why must dealers try to save EVERY nickel for themselves at such a huge quality cost to thier customers ..let the pros tint the brand new cars and I'll let the dealer sell the car :lol2
