Dual Pane Temepered

So my rep says DP Tempered absorption % still has to follow the same rule as Non tempered dual pane as related to glass breakage/seal failure. I always thought anything goes on tempered glass regardless :ninja . Comments please.............

What company?

The tempered is about 5 times stronger than annealed so it can handle the uneven temperature differences across the glass. The seals are maybe where they are trying to cover their bases? :ninja

JWF......He said I should of never put DN-15 (55%absorption) or MG-05 (66% absorption) on dual pane tempered on a commercial job. He said the glass will prob break and the seals will blow....

If the seals are new then it's not a big deal. 10-15 yr old building is another story...

It has been my experience that most high quality IG units only last 15 to 20 years.

Seal failure is due to poor unit design, inferior workmanship on the individual unit during the fabracation process and inadequate frame design which causes the unit to sit in a high moisture environment over long periods of time causing seal failure. Commercial solar control glass has a much higher rate of failure than clear IG units do from my experience. When glazing systems block tremendous amounts of energy there is added stress on the unit that in many cases shortens the life of the unit. Film always adds stress too.Tempered glass is the best to work with when it's not old. It's fun to study glass. Here's where to go.

It is a building less than 4 months old. I am not too concerned, I was just shocked when he told me that the glass would definitely break even though it was tempered. I think it will be fine. I guess we will have to wait and see...

He doesn't know what he's talking about. Use another brand and you will get a warranty. :ninja

I couldn't get a warranty for my blackout install on tempered IG units from LLumar :ninja

They'll warranty DL-15 though. :hmmm I'd have to look up DL-05 but I'm too lazy right now...
