Guest FilmBlazer
I have a government bid to put together, a very small one at that... I don't deal much with S&S here other than code really. I don't know how much caulk I need to purchase to complete the frame attachment. About 118 linear feet of aluminum framing based on the glass dimensions. 1. How thick of a bead is necessary? I told the glazer 1/2 inch. 2. The glazer asked me what you "finish" it with... No idea! 3. How much does this stuff run per tube Thanks for your help window film professionals! FB
Guest Bulldog
For wet glaze attachment, Doww 995 comes in sausage tubes for around $9 per. Covers around 20-25 linear feet at 1/2" bead. Google Dow 995 to find the specs for running the glaze. If your glazer ask how to finish it, he doesnt know how to work it....maybe not the best guy to go with. Guest FilmBlazer
Maybe that wasn't the word he used lol.. I thought he asked if you finish it with acetone Either way, I'm going to get him a tube to run some beads before he lays them, that is if I get the job. I will roll with his quote for applying th bead and if he's not comfortable with it after trying, I'll find someone else Thanks for the input. Tinitman
Look, installing safety film is for protecting lives. If you have no clue on what you are doing, learn from the manufacturer. If they are unwilling to help, change manufacturers Since this is for the government, 9 chances out of 10 this is for blast resistance. Do not try to learn how to protect lives from a message board. You need to understand the performances of the films, installing practices, and different attachment systems

This is what I do for a living FYI and I don't depend on this forum for anything, I only refer to it since there are numerous experts that dwell here. I have already spoken with my manufacturer reviewed all appropriate documents. I'm going to recommend 7 mil and the manufacturer's requirement of 3/4" bead. I'm just going to get a case of caulk and that should cover me Another questions.... Does anyone here know if Hanita Tek offers films that meet the US DOD requirements? I generally use a Cuban to finish it with!! Works REAL well!! Indeed it is and thanks for your input. I dont know about it actually being "Tested", But I'm sure that they have films that EXCEED the GSA/DOD requirements. Plus, it's good looking and handling film. Who better than the Israelis to make security film? They got it goin' on in the security arena!

Who better than the Israelis to make security film? They got it goin' on in the security arena! I agree totally. I am waiting to hear back from them in regards to the testing. The requirement is for "very low" DOD.... I quoted Llumar Magnum 7 mil with 3/4" 995. The 7 mil without frame attachment nearly meets the same requirement as 3M's 4 mil with frame attachment in accordance with GSA testing standards. I just don't know if the contractor will want to read all of that testing BS I submitted to him Fax was 13 pages. He's gonna be like "forget this, I'm gonna get some 3M." Guest VOLTRON
so you quoted llumar and are going to install hanita? If that is the case I would say that is not good practice. just my
Guest FilmBlazer
I quoted Llumar Magnum and I am going to install Llumar magnum. I was holding off on submitting the proposal until I spoke with some different manufacturers... As to whether or not their products have been DOD tested. SunGard is not DOD tested nor is Hanita Tek to my knowledge. I was hoping that Hanita Tek had some sort of Israeli testing method that might be comparable or exceed the testing requirements of DOD. I have yet to hear back from anyone at Hanita to confirm this. I have submitted the information and bid for Llumar Magnum 7 mil with 3/4" bead. DOD very low classification requires 3M (or equivalent) 4mil with 1/2" bead. Llumar Magnum 7 mil with 3/4" 995 meets the very high classification by GSA standards. Essentially the 7 mil with a thicker bead will outperform the 4 mil with a thinner bead. That is what I am shooting for. I honestly don't even care if I get this bid, at least I learned a fair amount in my research. My questions were more along the lines of the 995. Thanks to all who were helpful.
