what is the theory of waxing. what is actually chemically taking place while buffing?

how long should I buff a spot? how do I know how shinny a car or the paint can get? am I making the paint shine or is the coating itself shinning?

the thoery of waxing is that a thin coat of wax sits in fine scratchs and when you remove wax it stays in scratchs and provides a cleaning of urathne clearcoat.by cleaning it removes dirt that you really cant see, the dirt just makes your paint look dull. when you buff, you use a polish. they have a slight abrasive quility. buffing accully heats the clear to remove small layers. buffing uses high speed and a grit so fine you cant see the scracthes it leaves behind. it renews the finish. polishing before waxing is best. be sure to use a fine polish such as a lite cut glaze. this will remove dirt so the wax can adhere to the surface better. you want to polish a nice shine and then protect it with a wax. while polishing, polish an area for about a minute and then feel the area. you want the polish and pad to heat the paint. at least warm to the touch is what you want.work sections about 2ft. Sq.when finished polishing and waxing you should see no shrachs or dullness.
