Tint and polarized glasses

Hi all. I just got my first pair of prescription polarized sunglasses today. They are pretty awesome!

Anyway, I noticed that at least on my side windows (I believe about 30% tint, SunTek film if I'm not mistaken), I notice a sort of "rainbow" effect. I am aware of the grid pattern on a car's back window is due to the way they make the laminated glass... but I was just curious as to the reason for the "rainbow" pattern on tint.

To make things stranger, the back window is also tinted, so I guess the "rainbow" effect only tends to happen when you view the tint film at an angle. I think I've noticed on other tinted cars on the road as well.

Anyone know why this happens? It's not a big deal, I was just curious. Also, do all tint films do this?

Thanks guys. :lol6

It seems like the closer you are to the tint the less it does that, cause my strip on my car doesnt bug me but my back windows do...

Lean forward, look UP through it....you'll see rainbows.

Also the front windshield is laminated and does it less than the sides and back which are tempered. Tempered really does it.

It proves to be a useful tool when you are in flat glass sales. You can spot who has tint from afar :rollin

Sometimes is just makes you mad because if they have tint and you didn't know it, it prolly didn't come from you! Ha!
