Ok I want to start detailing some cars in my spare time, but I'm not sure how I should go about it. I'm 16 and I thought about sending some flyers out in my neighborhood and listing some services and maybe starting prices. One of my concerns is that people won't want to bring their cars to my house. I know people go mobile, but I can't afford all of that gear. Would it be too much to list on the, flyer that I will come to their house and do the work if they supply me with a water source and electric.? Also, how should I go about creating detail "packages"? Like should I offer a basic wash and vaccum with minor dash and interior wipe downs, and also a full detail with everything including wax? Keep in mind I would also have to do the stuff by hand as I don't have a DA polisher. I don't know how hard it would be to use one, but I've used many tools and such like air guns and wrenches and other heavy duty stuff. Sorry If I keep going on and on, I just want to start something up and do it the right way. Thanks!

somtime starting your own thing takes experenice. think about this, if your were to get a decent job as a detailer you could aquire tools and supplies slowly with the money you earn. it is also helpful to learn better and faster teqniques. it would also enable you to better understand the way the retail buisness of this type works. I have ran high end detail-tint shops and you need to understand detailing is one of the toughest things to do and please a customer, because everyone has there own pet peeves and things they would have done better in the four hours you worked on it.as far as doing it yourself and creating a buisness is concerned just do a good job and ask for referals. tell the customer"If I did a good job, tell your freinds. I would appriate it". It does work. any more quetions just ask. and good luck

You can do anything if you put your mind to it! I started out just like you and yes people will let you use the water and elec. with no questions asked! I still get asked if I need those things when I show up at a customers house. They are more surprised that I have it all aboard.

If you check out different detailing web sites you can find out about pricing. But make sure you start out cheaper because nobody has used you before.

Do a flyer that states who and what you are, what you can do for them, also do a friends and family discount this really worked for me when I first started because most of my biz came from these people and like stated above word of mouth is your best ad you can get.
