Going out on my own

Recommended Posts

So I recently retired from the local shop I was tinting for..I am still in the process of landing a new job non tint related (got a interview today fingers crossed). But a realtive here in town has a double car garage in his back yard that isnt used at all...I have been cleaning it up the past few weeks and am in the proess of procuring the materials needed to get up and on my feet doing tint as a side job

so here are my questions...

1. What size backboard does everyone use for handling their film..I dont wanna go to small and I sure as heck dont wanna pay for a bunch of glass I dont need...I have been shoping around garage sales looking for old doors but havent found any...

2. Other than basic consumables (soap, water, squeeges, and other misc. tools) what do u suggest I need for start up...I would like to get everyone at ones (spray tank etc...) but money is short right now..All will come in good time...

I am just trying to get a estimate togeather of what I will need and how much it will cost...would really appreciate some input...

OK, Mr. Retired Tint Legend, :beer

I don't use a peel board, but any standard sliding glass door will work (33X76)

along with soap, squeeges etc, your also gonna need some tint :gasp:hmmm J/K

A tank is a must, IMO go to any local home brewing store, they'll have em out here they run around $40.00 that includes the outlet fitting, go to home depot/ lowes and get your hose for it, most tint dist. should have the trigger asembley, an assortment of basic tools should run ya around $40 - $50, and then your tint. :lol just to start out, I'd get a 24" and 36" roll of 35% - 20% - and 5% so 6 rolls, and you can do any vehicle out there with those rolls.

Good Luck :thumb:hmmm

not trying to be funny but you should know these things if youre going alone ...?

its the basics

Duh I know this, just wanting to make sure I included everything I might need in my start up...and sorry I never measured the size of board at my old job...I was to busy tinting all damn day...so dont get me attitude, jerk

it's pretty easy to calculate the minimum size needed...

What's the biggest backglass you're ever gonna do?

The biggest ones ive ever tinted were camaros. I like to have a peelboard big enough to put two rollup windows side by side on it, so that's probably 40+ inches wide.

You probably know how big the windows are that you deal with most.

A business license and liability insurance might be nice too :thumb and I have seen comments here by some of the auto tinters about garage owners insurance too :beer
