DIY Energy film?

I saw 'Energy Film' at Home Depot. It's a do it yourself product for windows that does not have adhesive, so it's supposedly simple to apply and remove. It's supposed to block solar heat in summer, but also retain heat in winter. does anyone have experience or recs for this? thanks

Howard

You get what u pay for. I am sure the clarity is horrible and will make your home look like crap. All it is, is static cling film....the same stuff people putt on their car windows to protect their babys from geting too much sun in the back seat.

I have encountered a couple different variations of this film.. In the past I have seen this film color dyed (usually ended up purple) and it was transparent. However, the clarity was terrible and it developed a grainy type appearance, similar to what you would see with failing adhesive, but without any adhesive.

The other encounters I have had are exterior solar screen (custom fit). The screens are cut to the size of the window and attached without adhesive. However, I do not believe these screens will offer you any heat retention. These are going to have a similar appearance to the car window attachments that CE mentioned.

I cannot comment as to the effectiveness of either of these. I have never dealt with them other than removing them and putting up window film.

I recommend getting a free proposal for window film. Its effective, its permanent and it looks much, much more pleasing to the eye. Good luck!
