Wired Skylites - OK to install to exterior?

Recommended Posts

I have a customer with a skylite that causes heat and glare trouble. The problem is the skylite is wired glass. I wouldn't consider film on the inside due to breakage issues - but thought silver reflective film on the outside would be OK - most of the heat would be reflected away and not absorbed into the glass.

Does anyone have experience with film on wired skylites?

which skylites are safe to install on the inside?

I went to look at a job with two skylights, one was cracked and it had some 50% film on there, it was a double pane glass. but it seems they left the craesed film on purpose to confuse who ever works on it.

what is safe to put on, how do you determine what to put on?? :gasp

how big is the unit? I have framed in a piece of glass (pre-tinted) with no problem.frame two sides ,angle the glass in ,then frame other two sides. make sure you pre-drill everything . I have done a few like this ,no problem :dunno
