I've recently started a detail shop. I'm currently not doing any polishing/buffing but doing full interior and exterior minus the compounding.

I'm looking to hiring an employee to do work. I estimate it takes around 3 hours to do most jobs I've been doing.

What is the average pay an employee detailing would get per hour or per job that would take this long?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks to all,

I already have them setup to get 30%. The thing is that on these dealer jobs I do I get 115.00 to do a suburban or suv. so at 115.00 and it takes the guy 3 hours he only makes like 12 bucks an hour. that seem about right for a detailer? If he does it faster he gets the same amount as if he spent 3 hours.

thanks

The better and faster they work, the more they make...

30% in my book would be tiptop commision, that's almost a 3rd of the ticket.

Remember, the more you charge, the more you have to pay out.

I paid my guys a pre agreed flat rate for each car, more if it was a harder job, I.e. wetsanding and buffing, claybar etc.....

If you pay them by the hour, they will tend to take their time, if you pay per car, then you need to look out for quality control, because they will tend to rush to the next thing...

All in all, it's a toss up, 12 bucks an hour is dam good pay for a detailer that has none of his own money in tools and supplies and rent and insurance, etc...

Use your best judgment, but leave some wiggle room until you get them settled.... :spit:poke

Yeah man, you definitley need to be buffing those cars, if you're scared of the high speed buffer get a dual action high speed dewalt.
